Tallahassee Quarterback Club Announces Players of the Week, Will Host “We Are Marshall” Speaker

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club meeting this Tuesday will feature Jack Lengyel as their main speaker.

Mr. Lengyel has had a long and distinguished career in collegiate athletics. He began his career as the freshman football coach at his alma mater Akron University, has been involved with intercollegiate athletics since 1957. As a coach, Mr. Jack Lengyel served as assistant football coach at Akron (1959), Heidelberg College (1961-62) and Cornell (1963-65). Mr. Lengyel was named head football and lacrosse coach at the College of Wooster in 1966 and remained there for four years.

However, Mr. Lengyel’s greatest task and achievement as a coach was rebuilding the football program and community at Marshall University after the tragic airline crash involving the entire team. Mr. Lengyel was head football coach at Marshall from 1971 to 1974. Warner Brothers produced the movie “We Are Marshall”, starring Matthew McConaughey as coach Jack Lengyel.

Offensive Player of the Week:
Marcus Riley, Rickards High School
15 of 22 passing for 323 yards and 5 touchdowns, 25 rushes for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns
Defensive Player of the Week:
De’Anthony O’neill, Leon High School
8 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery
Offensive Lineman of the Week:
Trimi Slade, Lincoln High School
graded out at 90% with 10 pancake blocks and 1 de-cleater
Special Teams Player of the Week:
Kalil Clark, Lincoln High School
3 for 3 on field goals (21, 26, and 33 yards), 4 of 4 on extra points, 8 kickoffs with 7 touchbacks, 5 punts with an average of 43 yards (2 of his punts were muffed and Lincoln recovered one)

The Tallahassee Quarterback Club was formed in 1949 to support local high school and college football. The club and its members show their passion for the game of football while recognizing and supporting good sportsmanship. The club’s official meetings are during the football season; however several social and networking opportunities are planned throughout the year.
