Leon County Jobs Soar, Workforce Expands in September

The State of Florida employment report for September shows that Leon County added 4,300 jobs. This increase is consistent with seasonal trends. In September 2015 Leon county added 3,295 jobs and in 2014 approximately 4,600 jobs were added in September. As the chart below shows, this months gain follows a downward trend in jobs that began in March.

The unemployment rate increased from the 4.8% reported in August to 4.9% in September. This increase was due to the substantial expansion of the Leon county workforce. The workforce increased from 146,887 in August to 151,468 in September.

Approximately 1,500 more people were working in September of this year when compared to September of last year. The latest report shows that 144,237 people were employed in September, 2016. There were 142,720 people employed during September of last year.

At the state-level, Florida also gained jobs (138,000) in September and the workforce expanded. The unemployment rate increased from 4.9% in August to 5.0% in September.
