Mayor Gillum Participates in Anti-Trump Fundraiser, Pokes Fun at Governor Scott

The Tallahassee Democrat was quick to report on Mayor Andrew Gillum’s attendance at the U.S. Mayor’s Conference in Washington D.C., but has yet to report about Gillum’s participation in an anti-Trump meeting this past weekend funded by liberal groups set on challenging the Trump presidency.

A number of news outlets reported about the meeting began on Thursday, January 19, 2017 in Aventura, Florida. The meeting was kicked off with remarks by liberal personality Keith Olbermann. Olbermann is the host of GQ’s Resistance.

In a video released just before Trump’s inauguration, Olbermann said “if you are an elected Democrat official,…I do not want to hear about you working with him…I want to hear about your plans to impeach him and to force him to resign.”

David Brock, founder of the liberal news site Media Matters, was a major organizer of the meeting that addressed approximately 120 donors. According to Politico.com, the group set a “$40 million budget to fight Trump.”

Reports indicate the conference was held at the ritzy Turnberry Isle Resort and logistics were handled by two Democratic consultant companies which included the Bonner Group, a fundraising firm, and Civitas Public Affairs, a left-wing strategy and public relations shop.

What was Mayor Andrew Gillum’s contribution to the program? (View conference agenda here.)

Marc Caputo of Politico reported, “One possible gubernatorial candidate, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, has the tacit blessing of Brock, who invited Gillum to help moderate a forum featuring the six candidates for Democratic National Committee chair. Gillum’s one-liner:  ‘Gov. Rick Scott demands that you not use the term global warming or climate change in your answers’.”

Mayor Gillum’s shot at Governor Rick Scott could come back to haunt him and hurt the citizens of Tallahassee. How?

This week Mayor Gillum and the Tallahassee City Commission are set to approve requests for financial support from the state of Florida for several projects that will benefit the citizens of Tallahassee. Guess who will get a final say on those projects? The Florida Legislature and Governor Rick Scott.

  1. My hope is that Washington Democrats and their lackey wannabees (like Gillum) countrywide all continue with their hysterics since Trump’s election. They are in utter denial of the vast Red-covered 2016 electoral map of America, and it’s great that they remain so. The more nationwide Democrats that attempt to obstruct and impede Trump’s cabinet members and policies, the more those same Democrats are in clear danger of losing their seats in Washington and in their state legislatures. So every hysterical behavior or fit that Democrats throw just brings them closer to granting Trump and Republicans a 2018 super-majority in Congress, and further weakening the Democrats nationwide. Keep going as you are Dems and Liberals – you are digging your own political graves. You may forget all that Red on the 2016 map – but it won’t forget you.

  2. Let’s be clear. Gillum is out for himself and his own political ambitions. He constantly causes turmoil and contention between himself and Gov. Scott because being a liberal crony is what Dems expect him to do.

Big wake up to state workers. Next time our Gov. overlooks state pay raises again, send a thank you letter to Mayor Gillum. Question to all: Would you want to help someone who is constantly a thorn in your eye? I’ll tell you now, I would not. So I don’t blame the Gov. one bit.

    1. The State workers screwed themselves by heckling Scott his first year in office when he was in a downtown parade. All the “Rick Scott is an A$$hole” bumper stickers are not helping their cause.

  3. He’s doubling down on Syrian refugees and wants to make / keep Tallahassee a sanctuary city.

Hopefully after this weekend when Trump signs the executive order on immigration that ship has sailed.

Andrew was probably a good guy at some point, but truth be told if you didn’t go to high school in Tallahassee you have no business being mayor.

He’s just a carpetbagger. Soros is the problem.

  4. JJ, the reality of this small Democrat controlled island is that Andy will be Mayor of Tallahassee for as long as he likes. The majority of voters here are quite happy with him.

  5. Instead of mocking or trying to pick a fight with the Governor, he should take a page out of the Governor’s playbook and focus on enticing companies to come to Tallahassee. The Mayor’s best bet at moving up to a higher office isn’t sitting here pushing his People for the American Way employer agenda, it is making a real difference for this community. We need to diversify the community job makeup so there are more larger employers other the state government. That will raise wages and help all of us. The City Commission did away with the business license tax a few months ago, that is something they can use as part of the carrot to lure companies who are looking to relocate. If he would work with the Governor on areas they agree on instead of trying to constantly battle with him, our community would be better off. Sparring with the Governor isn’t going to help me or you, but working with the Governor to bring more and better job opportunities to Tallahassee will.

  6. Mark my words. After two years of Trump winning (defined basically as enforcing the law and creating a positive business environment), the American people will elect MORE Republicans in 2018.

Andy can have his little blue Tallahassee island in the surrounding sea of red.

  8. Our mayor has joined with the socialist left to get on the same page with their talking points to plot the demise of our new president… I am not upset to hear of this meeting…in fact it’s the opposite.

I am totally exuberant just because this meeting was mandated by one glorious event…

The election of Donald J. Trump!

I hope these meetings are “required” for 8 more years!

    1. He has been there long before he was ever elected to the City Commission. Check out his Financial Disclosure filing and his outside income from People For The American Way. Then research them. According to TR he has since resigned from that organization. I will be looking to see if he files an amended Disclosure or if he waits until July 1 of this year.

      1. foundation…foundation…it is People for the American Way Foundation. He gets upset when we keep saying he works for the People for the American Way.

Or rather, as you point out, he used to work for the People for the American Way since he apparently no longer works for the People for the American Way, er, I mean foundation..sorry I couldn’t help myself. 🙂
