Soros Family Gives Gillum Committee $150,000

Andrew Gillum claimed he would run a grassroots gubernatorial campaign that would take on special interests. At his campaign roll out, in Kleman Plaza, Gillum said,

we’re going to run a race that is powered by people. It’s going to be your $25 dollar contributions, your $5, your $10, that’s going to make it possible for a people-centric message to break through. Because we need to tell these special interests that we run this state, not them. That there are more us … than there are of them.

However, the first look at his campaign donations for governor tell a different story.

The campaign is reporting that he has raised approximately $765,000.

However, of that amount about 68%, or $520,000, has been raised with Gillum’s affiliated Forward Florida Committee which can accept unlimited donations.

Prominent donors include George and Alex Soros, Norman Lear, Jane Fonda, Allison Tant, and state Rep. Loranne Ausley. The campaign says Gillum received support from 56 of Florida’s 67 counties through 3,500 online donations.

Also, the Palm Beach Post is reporting that George Soros and, his son, Alex Soros, gave $150,000 to the Forward Florida Committee. While Norman Lear, founder of Gillum’s former employer, People for American Way, gave $50,000.

Tallahassee Reports has written extensively on Gillum’s connection to George Soros and the People for the American Way.

More details about the donations will be available later this month when a campaign report is filed with the state.

  1. Sadly, Tallahassee citizens and many others tend to believe his rhetoric. If they would only do a little of their own investigating they could learn so much. There is always a trail….you just have to follow it. The truth in life and character never changes and birds of a feather always flock together. If he stood a chance, this could be bad for Florida.

  2. Actually it may be a good thing if he becomes governor – Tallahassee would certainly be better off!

    1. Gillum and Gov. Scott were both serving paella at the Capitol yesterday for Miami/Dade Day. Was there any interaction?

  3. And the fundraising letter paid for by the taxpayers of Tallahassee! Also, Sean Pittman gave $45,000 to this campaign and Pittman is tied to the Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil – who is investigating Mayor Gillum – for Gillum’s misuse of funds. There is now a too close for comfort conflict of interest and when is the Governor going to step in and hand over the investigation to FDLE?

  4. He has always been way less than ethical, to think or suggest that Andy will suddenly become honest and responsible is an extremely unrealistic expectation.

  5. Andy is shameless. Just like his mentor.

Andy’s various demographic/base of support groups will be silent.
