The citizens should establish an annual “Buck Passing Award” to be awarded to the city or county employee or elected official who was the most successful in deflecting criticism of unpopular, unethical, illegal, immoral, or just poor management decisions, onto another person.

First of all, my heart goes out to Newman family. He sounds like a man of faith and for that I commend him. If there is a place to donate to his family, I would certainly do so.
This entire situation is the result of an out of control local government. As long as staff at any level are willing to dance with the devil, he or she keep their job or have a pathway cleared to another job. I don’t live in the city so I didn’t vote for the indefensible potentates at the City of Tallahassee. They sit back & assign blame to innocents without thought except how to cover their own asses which in turn those down the line will do whatever necessary to cover their asses and so those who have given much in time, service & effort are hung out to dry. Fired by phone…great leadership there. People ask, how can these people sleep at night?! Believe me, they have no trouble sleeping as they are part of the evil empire where there is no integrity much less sleep problems.
I can promise you the 1st thoughts of the potentates in this instance was “we are going to get sued over this, so we have to place blame as far removed from us as possible” because that is how they think. Even in death, families find it easier to forgive when leaders admit failure and work to make sure the problems are corrected. But you have to really be a leader 1st of all.
It appears to me what rules the agenda day in and day out at the City of Tallahassee, (2nd after, their number 1 thought of “what’s in this for me”). There is no leadership at the helm of the City of Tallahassee. As long as the citizenry allows this, it will continue. What is wrong with you people?! There are more of you than them! Why do you keep putting these same people in office?! Cancer spreads when left untreated, one day it may be on your doorstep.

In most people’s minds, if an employee does something terrible enough to be fired, and there is obviously a training or supervisory issue, the supervisor deserves the same or worse repercussions.
They are responsible for their employees, that’s why they get paid better. And Lee “quitting” and then being rehired is a JOKE.

Management misdirecting the blame to the rank and file is unconscionable. This accepted culture needs to change. Why does the county manager allow this and moreover why did he do nothing for so long when there were mega management problems leading up to this incident? Another injustice where management attempts to vindicate themselves instead of taking responsibility or accountability.

Perhaps a GO FUND ME account would be in order for Mr. Newman to recoup monetary loss, receive counseling, and obtain legal representation.

What happened with the long response to the Markel shooting? Or the terrible car accident on W. Pensacola with the college kids?
