So let’s develop a plan for burying the major power lines in Tallahassee. We can’t help solve the issues with small subdivisions but we can prioritize the corridors to serve the greatest good. What we should do is get the state and the feds to assist in matching our local funds from Blueprint and start burying power lines under the medians along major roadway corridors. It is paramount that the capital city of the state continue to function after a hurricane. The state could be hit with two storms at the same time.

Costs run about $5M a mile, so we could probably do major work along 6-8 high density corridors for $500M. Take them one at a time and do it over 5, 10, 15 yrs.

You all know we are going to get hit again. Maybe not next year but some time. Just think if Michael had come further east. Many of us would still be living with blue tarps.

For starters, since the City and County keep approving all these new Mini-Subdivisions all over town, make them all include underground Utilities.

So a businessman builds a restaurant, furnishes the kitchen, stocks the cupboards and then charges customers to eat. This businessman doesn’t add $5.00 to every bill to cover the costs of the building(it’s all covered in the prices on the menu). Yet here the power companies want us to pay for capital improvements separately so they can continue to boast about how low the power rates are in Florida.
