I saw the virtual school platform for 5th-grade students and I was blown away! The platform is superb, the teachers are engaged and thorough, and there's no way for the student to click through the material. Parents are engaged, also when they have to print worksheets and follow up with the virtual teachers. The teachers can be called if there's an issue or parents need help. The best part is it forces comprehension...not just regurgitating straight from the text. I was once opposed to virtual becoming the standard. Not any more.

My child is in virtual school and is not struggling to say the least. It is hard to get into the school as it is a choice school and if they fall behind just three weeks they are kicked out. It is amazing to see my child finish the whole weeks work in less than 4 days. These are AP courses they are taking. The teachers are very good and call the student each week.
The new reality is that virtual school is the way the world of education is going.

Virtual School and Success are two different things. To get into Virtual is not easy. There is a high GPA required and the ability to show self-discipline. There is a pacing guide and if you fall off pace for three weeks or more you are removed from the program. It also allows the student to pick all the courses they want and not worry about scheduling conflicts. There are teachers assigned to each student and each course. As a parent you get emailed every week with marks and where the student is vs the pacing guide.
BTW Do a search for Leon Virtual School and you will find that it is the top rate school in the county and has a 100% graduation rate.

Anyone dealing with this group of kids should be applauded. There are lots of obstacles for these kids to overcome and many of them stem from trauma. Having teachers and staff aware and trained is the only way to Help them.

Alternative schools like Success Academy, Second Chance, SAIL, PACE, etc. are places students can be placed so High Schools do not have to deal with them and do not lower their school grades. We can thank A- Hole Jeb Bush for bring us this mess via Blue-Print 2000. It failed in Texas and has failed in Florida. Liberal Supt's and Liberal Board Members have only made it worse. Liberal parents and school administrators have no solution except more money and "new inmovative"programs. We must return to tough parenting and tough education to correct our educational systems. I know this is the opinion of someone born in 1940's, but by-golly it worked for me.

If this is a front for virtual school then that should be discussed. Virtual school is where they put the throway kids all across the district while they are still technically attending real school. I know because they tried to do it to mine and it was a disaster. Lost a full year of school that will never be regained. It’s another LCS scam. Now if they are actually going to class with real in person teachers than that is another thing. Otherwise it’s just babysitting albeit better babysitting than it used to be.
