Our recreational sports have been on a steady participation decline. Why is it middle school sports are supported so? I propose we end middle school sports within the county school system.

Whoa, wait a minute. Before everyone goes off...I would rather rekindle our recreational leagues with the ages of the middle school kids. It would bulk up our recreational sites, still keep kids involved, boost our recreation and neighborhood affairs dept., and probably best of all, allow those funds to be spent giving our teachers raises.
The amount of money that is spent just in middle school sports is huge. Yet, what is the point? There is no state championship for middle school sports. It is only a precursor to high school athletics. Our kids can gain these same attributes by playing in our recreational leagues. Also, kids would get to play with kids from different schools and more diversity would prosper. Just think about it. What purpose is middle school sports having that recreational leagues could not provide at a cheaper cost to parents?

2nd Comment: School sports are expensive. For Grandson to play Freshman Baseball at Leon, in 2014, it was $1800 for him and Varsity is more. I heard that Chiles varsity players' parents have to cough up around $2500 per player...and this was 6 years ago. What about football and basketball... or are they subsidized by over charging the baseball parents?

Parents raising kids today played more video games as kids. Parents who played a lot of video games as kids would be less likely to steer their kids toward team sports? Seems plausible, especially when you factor in the expense of equipment, travel & time commitment for practice, fees, etc. for team sports vs the lower cost of video games. Other factors are greatly reduced injury risks, scheduling conflicts, ease of access to video games, child interest in team sports, and parent (influencer) interest in team sports.
