There is no such thing as a hate crime or hate speech. It’s just crime and speech.
Why is it worse to commit an act against someone because of their personal characteristics than to commit an act simply because you thought it would be fun? Or for revenge or money? Is the victim somehow less of a victim in that case? Some people commit crimes against people they claim to love. Is that somehow better?
This is utter nonsense from politicians. Now law enforcement and the DA are going to have to get inside the head of each individual and determine how they felt about their victims’ demographics – a complete waste of taxpayers’ money. But with politicians, what else is new?
