I'm not trying to be mean or snarky but I imagine that theres some sort of CPA code book that translates "blatant disregard for fiscal awareness" into "a dirty rotten thief".
As a CPA you are an honorable and trusted professional and I totally understand why its inappropriate for you to call a dirty rotten thief a dirty rotten thief.
CPA's are cool.

Paul, you hit the nail on the head. I am a CPA and work with a number of nonprofit entities...and it PAINED me to go through the Coalition's tax return. The board members' blatant disregard for fiscal awareness is disturbing. With that being said, it is refreshing that, as the head of an NFP, you are cognizant of compensation issues. Props to you and your organization.

Most not-for-profit (NFP) agencies have a compensation committee, made up of board members, that oversee the CEO's compensation package. Any way you cut it, whether it was approved by an oversight group or not, this scenario doesn't pass the "straight face test." It also appears the CEO rewarded her team with excessive bonuses and PTO to keep them quiet about her looting of the treasury.

I am the CEO of a NFP association, and our compensation committee consists of the Executive Committee (nine people), including the board chair. In my experience, there is no way on earth that a compensation committee that is paying attention, would approve the package this woman received, because anyone who actually read it, would have known it was a future scandal headline. There is a real question of board member culpability in this case.

The coalition cannot point to the agency's revenue and use a compensation survey to justify the CEO package, either, because the coalition was not generating or earning these funds, rather, they are a statutorily authorized distribution center for funds. If the coalition were a member organization/association, with goods and services, and was generating $40-50M a year, it would be a TOTALLY different discussion regarding CEO compensation.

At first I was thinking the House and the Governor were working together to put on a decent show of outrage and then quietly bury the issue while we are all focused on the Presidential election process.
But now I'm thinking they just might be serious and some chubby rear ends may actually get a spanking of some sort.
Great Scott these ladies of the nonprofits were carrying on as if Andrew Gillum had won the Governor's race!!!
