A slip by a surgeon can mean the patient died even if it is unintentional, just as the distracted driver can kill “unintentionally”.

If the best they got is “unintentional” as a defense, somebody with a salary 2 or 3 times that of a high school teacher and presumably the bearer of greater responsibility, they are admitting that they have no defense.

Schools should NOT be using Opinions as a Teaching Tool. Lesson Plans should be Factual and Proof Based. 2+2 is 4 not 3 and not 5. Males will NEVER be able to get Pregnant. Weapons of any kind do NOT Kill anyone without the help of a Living Being.

The problems with your “academic freedom” claim is that you’re all government paid employees using taxpayer dollars to spew your own misguided feelings. You punish students that exercise their own right to free expression by tying their opinions that don’t align with yours to their grades.

You’re in a unique position. Instead of taking advantage of it to push your agenda maybe you should focus on your job?
