@Wonderer YOU may not have indoctrinated kids for 45 years. THEY certainly are today. I have kids in both Government schools and private schools in Leon County. We applied for Step-Up because my youngest was going to have to attend Sealey, Leon County's behavioral magnet. You send YOUR kids and grandkids there to be in that CF. Mine will stay in Private School.

Steve, I would love an article about if there is any sign of additional new private schools being organized for construction for future years. That would appear to me to be the bottleneck on even more students leaving the public schools.

Saying that “only” 16,000 students switched ignores those 22,000 other kids. I would guess that some (LOL) of those would have gone to public schools.
I also find the comments about indoctrination rather laughable. What you are really saying is that students are NOT being indoctrinated the way you prefer. I spent 45 years teaching. The only indoctrination was show your work. I didn’t check on my colleges daily but I think they were also busy with subject matter.
There are many reasons why students are not working on grade level. The comments make it sound like the schools are intentionally not doing something. I am confident that anyone with actual answers to this problem would be yelling very loudly (and be very rich).

I disagree with the argument that 1.) all the taxpayer money set aside for education should go to public schools (aka government schools), 2.) that it is terrible if students have the option to leave the system and attend a school of their choice and 3.) that only kids of parents who can and are willing to pay for private education should be able to leave the public system (like it's some sort of ransom that needs to be paid).

Only about half of the students in the public schools read at grade level which means only about half are learning anything else at grade level. Then, there is the constant problem of the public school system pushing their value system onto the kids. The voucher system is fair and kind to the students and parents.

My biggest question is, the Students that are using these Vouchers, are you keeping records on their Grades to see what Grades they were making BEFORE they enrolled in the Voucher Program and what Grades they are making NOW to see if they are improving their Learning? Because, if there is NO improvement after one year, they should not be getting anymore Vouchers.

My second question is: Is the Money that is used to pay for the Vouchers coming out of the LCS Budget or is it coming straight from the Tax Payers?
