This is so dumb. It isn't some big mystery where the illegals are working. They're at Yum brands picking tomatoes. Go to any house with a roof being put on it and half of the crew is illegal. If you leave Florida, go to any meat packing plant in the midwest. Who cares if they have a community id card?

Trump could have done any of those things. But he didn't, because at the end of the day, the Republican party is in the pockets of big business even more than the Democratic party, and big business *likes* illegal immigrants. They work hard, for cheap, and can't complain if they get injured.

Strenuously punish businesses hiring illegals and they'll stop hiring illegals. Pearl clutching about community id cards won't do anything, because it's still a better deal for them to risk being caught while getting paid American dollars than anything they could get back home.

I have a dozen or so "alternative IDs". My employee ID allows me to get into the locked buildings and rooms, get dining discounts or catch an occasional free StarMetro ride. My Leon County library card. My health insurance ID. A bunch of personal IDs from businesses like CVS reward card or gas station discount card. All of them are from non-governmental or partially-governmental entities with my name and even photo (sometimes) printed on them. I'm sure that those saying "Legal residents of the United States do not need an “alternative form of identification" don't realize that they carry a few of them in their own pockets. So, issuing "alternatives IDs" is not a crime and is often necessary. The question is who is willing to accept them and for what purpose. If they are accepted where they shouldn't (like driving or voting) - file criminal charges against those accepting them and not those issuing them (unless they are counterfeit, of course).

Another point. Direct quote form the article: "The cards ... cannot be used for purposes such as driving or voting". Direct quote from E.Lyle: "If you believe they’re not letting them drive and vote...". Hmm, whom should I believe here?

If you believe they're not letting them drive and vote, I have a bridge to sell you. Legal residents of the United States do not need an "alternative form of identification." Full Stop
