There are so few police on routine patrol these days that it has to be asked, “what are they doing with their time?” Even routine traffic accidents get a “Community Support Officer”, not a policeman. Putting cops back on the street will help get people to drive more sanely, including the exorbitant number of red light runners that we have.

And much of this would be solved by traffic light timing that made sense. Instead of metering traffic, flow traffic in the dominant direction. Better timing would greatly decrease the wear-and-tear on brakes.
