Currently, syllabi list the textbooks, how the class is graded, a pacing schedule, and course expectations, as well as other items like college policies. There's already more than enough information posted online about the class for interested students to make an informed decision. Listing all assignments with descriptions, as well as all readings, does not allow for flexibility in teaching. An instructor can't go back and reteach or offer additional assignments because it wasn't posted 45 days before the class started. And what happens if a listed assignment or chapter is skipped for some reason, such as students already being proficient in that objective or a school closure for a hurricane? Instructors need the flexibility to teach to the students, not at them.
