NIL in Tallahassee high schools only applies to one student. Let's hope this isn't somehow directed at curbing his appeal or opportunities. The timing suggests this is a hater trying to darken the boy's shine. Based on his record, that's impossible. On the other hand, I hope he is the first of many to secure a contract in high school, so this clarity will help others moving forward. People are vigilant and can't help but imagine the strings being pulled in the background nefariously. I just hope this sudden focus is truly about benefiting the young athletes.

@David T...don't threaten me with a good time! Are NASA and TESLA actually sponsoring kids? This is the kind of investment we need to propel the real stars, the intellectuals, to prominence. Our kids should see more of their accomplishments in the classroom rewarded like the boys that fool with balls. No offense, but throwing or catching a ball is much less useful to humanity than discovering new techniques to use in the lab or developing a dye that can expose markers for disease. If the kids see young scientists get the same kind of accolades as the athletic kids, they'd feel inspired to pursue their academics just as much as they're inspired to join a team. When will the science fair winner be a shoe in for the homecoming crown? When will the debate team get a pep rally? How about some cheerleaders for the chess club? Wishful thinking, I know. Somebody tell Rocky.
