The Agape Christian Saints (1-3) of Orlando defeated the Maclay Marauders (0-5) 36-7 at Maclay last night. With only a 15 man roster, the Saints were able to pull a significant win over the Marauders.

The Saints scored 18 within five minutes of the first quarter. In the third quarter, Saints’ senior quarterback, Cameron Stroud, scored a touchdown after intercepting a pass from Maclay’s Jack Brady and running it 75 yards down the field. Bernard Poitier, a senior fullback, also scored a touchdown for the Saints after an interception that led to a 46 yard run.

Jack Brady, the freshman quarterback for Maclay, struggled against the Saints last night. Brady threw 19 incomplete passes by the end of the fourth quarter. AJ Miller, an eighth grade running back, set the Marauders up on the three yard line for a touchdown after a 29 yard run. The Marauders were pushed back and the ball was eventually intercepted by Poitier of Agape.

“We need to figure out what we are missing. We make mistakes that we could easily avoid,” said senior linebacker Phillip Billings.

The Marauders were missing senior running back and linebacker Scott Ereckson, who has had the most tackles for the Marauders this season.

The Marauders continue their effort for a win against FAMU High School on Oct. 2 at Maclay.

The Maclay Marauders are now 0-4 after a disappointing loss to the Sneads Pirates last night. Maclay hosted Sneads for the first home game of the 2015 Marauder season. Though the Pirates pulled out a 16-7 win, the Marauders continued to fight until the final whistle.

Several Marauders stood out during last night’s game. Emory Boeneke, a senior wide receiver and defensive back, had 94 return yards, while senior Scott Ereckson and freshman Harrison Padgett led the team with 12 tackles each. With eight starters being seniors, the Marauders will have plenty of room to grow in the upcoming years.

Ereckson said, “We have the talent and skill to be a successful football team, but we need to start executing better and stop shooting ourselves in the foot. We need to come together as a program, but more importantly we need to come together as a family.”

Jack Brady, the freshman quarterback for Maclay, threw a crucial touchdown pass to senior George Hutchinson that placed the Marauders on the scoreboard during the second quarter. In the fourth, however, Brady threw two incomplete passes along with one interception.

Several fumbles from other Marauders also hurt their cause.

Demonstrating both schools priorities, players, coaches, and spectators joined together in a moment of silence to honor and to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sep. 11, 2001. During halftime, local first responders were also honored for their bravery and dedication to the safety of American citizens.

The Marauder football season continues this Friday, Sep. 18 at Maclay against Agape Christian Academy of Orlando, Florida.
