    Something is wrong with this article since a Trendline will show sn overall upward trend.

    @Steve,
    What you referred to as a Three-Month Moving Average is not a moving average. You’ve just calculated the average of three-month time segments and plotted those average points. That’s why your plot looks choppy with a lot of up and down swings and really doesn’t convey anything very meaningful.

    To calculate a moving average, three-months in this case, you start with the average of Jan, Feb and March numbers and plot that point. Then, average the numbers from Feb, March and April and plot that point. Then, average the numbers for March, April and May and plot that number and so-on for whatever total time period you want to cover. What you’ll see is a smoother more meaningful curve that will show the general trend of either increasing or decreasing fatal shootings in this case. Give it a try and you’ll see what I mean. Isn’t math fun?

    3 shootings yesterday, though not sure why the tool matters. Hows those violent crime stats looking and why this obsession with short term statistics?

    My son called me yesterday at 12.13 am, fatal shooting at an apartment complex just off W Tennessee, just feet away were college students reside.
