Tallahassee Airport Traffic Begins Year Down

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to take a toll on air travel. The latest information from the Tallahassee International Airport shows passenger traffic decreased 62.0% in January when compared to traffic one year ago. The number of passengers was down from 70,7077 during January 2020 to 26,653 this year.

Last month passenger traffic was 32,524 and December month-over-month traffic was down 58.5%.

The Passenger Traffic Report shows passenger counts decreased for the three major carriers. American was down 57.0%, the Delta Group was down 70.3% and Silver Airways was down 72.4%.

The graph below shows the annualized number of passengers for the last 24-months. The annual rate of passengers at TIA in December was 334,347. Due to the major decline during the last ten months, the annualized rate is 61.8% below the annual rate reported during this month last year. The annualized number of passengers is calculated by summing the previous 12 months of traffic.

The annualized passenger traffic before the Great Recession was approximately 947,000 in 2007.

  1. Even before Covid, we decided never to fly again after a horrific experience with TSA at DIA. We will always drive and enjoy the time together. Now, with Covid and the insanity surrounding all the lunatic restrictions the flying nightmare has been dialed up to 11. I will be fair and say that TSA in Tallahassee were typically far superior and customer friendly then other airports. Not sure how they are now, though, after all the Corona Fascism. But we are done being molested by the government and airline staff just to fly. I also agree that the parking fees are ridiculous. Frankly, we believe suppressing airport traffic will continue by design as part of the “Great Reset” and the ridiculous notion of reducing carbon emissions.

  2. We stopped flying out of Tallahassee because of poor flight schedules to connecting flights at major airports. Additionally parking fees for long term are too high. We find that driving to Jacksonville or Atlanta saves us enough money to make it worthwhile.
