Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) compared Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to Adolf Hitler, the infamous Chancellor of National Socialist controlled Germany from 1933 to 1945.
Fried claims that she has studied Hitler and how he came to power.
“Instead of listening and trying to govern with the people, he’s trying to govern over the people. And that, I’m sorry, I’m a student of history too. I saw the rise of Hitler. I learned those stories,” Fried said.
Fried continued by clarifying that she does not think Florida will reach the severity of Hitler’s power grab.
“Do I think that we’re going to get to the extent of Hitler’s power?” Fried said. “Of course not. But the rise of his power and what he did to scapegoat certain people, and especially the Jewish community in Germany, and how he utilized going after the media, blaming people, and putting fear and then taking over the military. That’s what this governor is doing.”
DeSantis’ press secretary, Christina Pushaw, condemned Fried’s comments.
“If we had an honest media instead of DNC stenographers, reporters would be criticizing Nikki Fried‘s dishonest and offensive claim that Gov. DeSantis is the modern Hitler. Such a comparison trivializes Hitler’s crimes against humanity. This is not funny, it’s sick,” Pushaw said.
Florida State Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL-53) said DeSantis has done more to help Jews in Florida than any other governor.
“As a Jew, I am repulsed by @NikkiFried comparing @GovRonDeSantis to Hitler,” Fine tweeted. “No Governor has done more to help Jews in their state than Governor DeSantis. She needs to disavow her repugnant anti-Semitism — or resign.”
Regarding Hispanic voters in Florida, many of whom are originally from dictatorial nations in Latin America, Fried said they have had “the wool pulled over their eyes” by the Republican Party.

When the opponent invokes Hitler or Racism it is a sign of desperation. No matter what party you belong to - this is not the way to win friends or influence enemies. When I go to vote - as an independent - I think now which candidate has made my life better? That's part of how you get my vote ;).
