Florida Democrat lawmakers filed legislation trying to enshrine the right to an abortion into Florida law to the point allowed before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. State Sen. Lori Berman and Rep. Rita Harris filed identical legisalation that will likely get no traction. “I feel the message is very important,” said Berman. “We need to get the message out that these are significant issues that affect people’s lives that the Legislature refuses to even address.”

Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis announced he is backing legislation that will crack down in crowdfunding charity scams. The bill sponsored by Rep. Giallombardo would require potential fraudsters to publish a complete and accurate accounting of all donations collected and spent by the campaign. “As we saw firsthand following tragedies like the Surfside condo collapse and Hurricane Ian, crowdfunding sites like GoFundMe allow fraudulent accounts to run rampant across the internet, tugging at the heartstrings of those that want to help victims of a terrible disaster. Often these accounts are outright scams, and you have no idea where your money is going or if it will be used to aid the victims of these tragedies,” Patronis
said.

Florida Rep. Alex Andrade filed legislation last week that would ban gender studies from Florida’s public universities. Among other things, the bill would require colleges and universities to “remov[e] from its programs any major or minor” in Critical Race Theory, Gender Studies, or Intersectionality. Florida Gov. ROn DeSantis said that it will “further elevate civil discourse and intellectual freedom in higher education, further pushing back against the tactics of liberal elites who suppress free thought in the name of identity politics and indoctrination.”

  1. “State Sen. Lori Berman and Rep. Rita Harris filed identical legislation trying to enshrine the right to an abortion into Florida law.”

How about a citizen lead constitutional amendment making it mandatory that anyone that supports such a measure be sacrificed at the same rate that abortions actually occur. Hmmm… Don’t kill babies and nobody gets killed. Seems pretty simple.

  2. “further pushing back against the tactics of liberal elites who suppress free thought ”

“legislation last week that would ban gender studies ”

Yep. Nothing says being against suppression of free thought more than banning classes! No hypocrisy here at all.

    Coming next week:

“Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.”

  3. How could anyone, besides Jeff Spicoli, pay attention, participate, learn and suceed in class while stoned? Didn’t see this one coming. And who are the parents that condone their child leaving home with top-shelf, medical marijuana in their pocket? Medical marijuana, IMO, should not be prescribed to persons less that age 21.
