City Makes Decision To Bid On Northwood Mall Property

In the waning minutes of last week’s city commission meeting, elected officials voted unanimously to approve a measure to allow the City of Tallahassee to bid on the purchase of the Northwood Mall.

The issue was not listed on the meeting agenda, but was brought up by Mayor John Dailey near the end of the meeting.

Sources told Tallahassee Reports that some city commissioners found out about the issue minutes before the meeting began.

The 30-acre property is set to go to auction on April 15, with a starting bid of $2 million. The property is on the city’s short list of potential locations for a public safety campus.

Dailey informed city commissioners that if the City of Tallahassee wanted to be involved with the bid process a decision would have to be made immediately since there would be no opportunity for a another public meeting before the April 15th auction.

The vote was unanimous to participate in the auction.

City Commissioners, who have gone to great lengths to ensure a transparent search process for a new public safety campus location, made it clear that the decision does not mean this will be the new location for the police headquarters.

Commissioner Curtis Richardson said. “We may or may not determine to put it there. This does not signal that this will be the site for the law enforcement campus.”

Mayor Dailey said the property provides a number of opportunities which include affordable housing or the public safety complex.

Which realty company is handling the sale/auction? Who in the company will receive the commission? Is the company a contributor to the Mayor’s campaign? If so, how much did they contribute? Is the individual who will receive the commission a friend of the Mayor? I assume the Mayor is honest, however, Trust but verify.

$5,738,100 so far and just over an Hour to go...………………. WHO will the winner be. Tallahassee has already said their Budget was just $8 Million. IF the City is the winner, they should NOT tear it down. They should Gut it and redesign the Interior. Up Stairs should be Offices and Down Stairs should be the Garage for Repairs, Holding cells, a Gym, and a place for Ambulance's. I have seen the drawing and all I can say is WASTE OF MONEY. The City and County needs to STOP over spending.
