LOCAL NEWS

On Wednesday, the Tallahassee City Commission conducted the first of two public hearings on the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) operating budget, which totals $908 million, and the FY25 capital budget, which totals $302 million. The vote was 3-2.

The Greater Frenchtown Southside Citizens Advisory Committee recently held a meeting and concluded that the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency should consider purchasing part of Railroad Square.

Tallahassee Police have arrested one “armed and dangerous” suspect after a home invasion escalated into a shooting near Appleyard Drive Wednesday afternoon. The second suspect is still at large, according to TPD.

FLORIDA NEWS

A Florida appellate-court panel heard arguments Wednesday in a two-state legal battle between Florida State University and the Atlantic Coast Conference over issues such as sports media rights.

The Florida Supreme Court announced on Wednesday that it will expedite a case challenging actions taken by state officials, including Gov. Ron DeSantis and Attorney General Ashley Moody, over their alleged interference in the upcoming vote on a constitutional amendment pertaining to abortion rights.

NATIONAL NEWS

Inflation continued its downward trend to 2.5% year-over-year in August, the latest consumer price index report showed, reaching the lowest level since February 2021 and approaching the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. Francine made landfall yesterday around 60 miles southwest of New Orleans, Louisiana, as a Category 2 hurricane before weakening to a Category 1. A state of emergency is in effect statewide and in Mississippi, with a shelter-in-place order in effect for New Orleans following the end of evacuation windows.
