The City of Tallahassee broke ground on Tuesday, June 24 for its first city-owned electric vehicle charging station. City Manager Reese Goad said the 4-charging stand facility will have the latest and greatest technology.

Leon County Commissioners recently received an update week on the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships (WXC). Apalachee Regional Park is set to host the event on January 10.

FLORIDA NEWS

Amid controversy about a plan to build a detention facility for undocumented immigrants in the Everglades, Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday said a similar facility probably will be added at North Florida’s Camp Blanding.

The University of Florida (UF) on Wednesday announced that it secured the necessary land and financial support to move forward with construction of its new graduate campus in downtown Jacksonville, following a unanimous vote by the Jacksonville City Council approving the transfer of more than 20 acres in the LaVilla neighborhood and an additional $50 million in city funding.

  1. Interesting take, WIlliam. You just may be on to something there. Does seem to be a conflict of interest at play. hmmmmmm

  2. City wants to sue Circle K to stop a gas station from being built, while at the same time building a city owned EV vehicle station. Circle K should sue the city for unfair govt competition.

  3. The article says 30c a kilowatt hour so it seems users will be charged. To compare home usage is 9c per kwh.

    I’d be curious as the cost to taxpayers to build and maintain it. Last I checked the city hasn’t built any gas stations for me.

  4. I could be wrong but, when you say, city-owned electric vehicle charging station, is that for City use or Public use?

    Building a Graduate Campus in downtown Jacksonville? How will Parking be handled?

  5. The Founding Fathers did not think tax money should go to benefit the few who own electric toy cars. How about free gas for the rest of us.

    This is why we should do away with property tax. End wasteful spending
