The Republican Party of Florida in August continued to expand its voter-registration advantage over the Florida Democratic Party.
The GOP had a 1,355,487 lead in “active” registered voters as of Aug. 31, up from a 1,326,217 edge at the end of July, according to data posted on the Florida Division of Elections website. The data showed 5,495,517 active Republican voters and 4,140,030 Democrats.
Also, the state had 3,387,390 active voters registered without party affiliation and 438,254 registered with third parties.
After Democrats historically led in registration, Republicans have steadily built a large lead in recent years. The GOP holds all statewide offices and supermajorities in the Florida House and Senate.
