Tallahassee Autumn Weather Summary, Winter Expectations

The National Weather Service provided the following Autumn weather summary and a look ahead to Winter expectations.

Autumn Climate Summary: Tallahassee experienced its 2nd driest autumn (September-October-November) on record at 1.59 inches, trailing 1931 at 1.14 inches. The 2025 seasonal accumulation was 9.66 inches below normal! There were only 10 days of measurable rain of at least a hundredth of an inch, which is the 2nd least on record behind 8 in 1943. The greatest single-day rainfall was 0.54 inches on September 26th, or about 34% of the total autumn amount.

Temperatures were near normal with an average seasonal mean of 69.6°F. The highest/lowest temperatures were 95°F/26°F. The last 90°F day of the year likely occurred on October 8th, which is only 1 day later than the 1991-2020 climatological mean.

Winter Climate Normals: The average mean winter (December-January-February) temperature in Tallahassee is 54.3°F with a typical high/low of 66.5°F/42.1°F. On average, the capital city experiences 22 freezing days of at least 32°F while the normal number of hard freezes (25°F or lower) is 6. Although not guaranteed to happen every year, the average first hard
freeze of the season is December 23rd.

As for precipitation, seasonal rainfall accumulations are usually just under 13 inches with a fairly even distribution between each winter month. Frontal boundaries, areas of low pressure, and Gulf systems are the primary rain-makers.
