COT Not Responsible For Notifying Customers of Tax Exemptions

The Citizens Advisory Board for utilities met today at City Hall and discussed the recent controversy over sales tax exemptions on electricity. Dr. Erwin Jackson spoke at the meeting.

Reese Goad, head of Business Services, stated that it was not the responsibility of the city to notify citizens and business owners about tax exemptions that might lower their electric bill.

Mr. Goad also verified what Tallahassee Reports had discovered earlier this week, the city of Tallahassee does not have information on its website providing details about the tax exemptions. Mr. Goad did state that city staff would set up meetings with business groups to discuss the sales tax exemptions for electricity.

Mr. Goad is scheduled to provide an update to the City Commission at their next meeting on Wednesday, beginning at 4:00pm at City Hall.
