The City of Tallahassee’s Independent Ethics Board voted to appoint Carlos Rey to fill a seat that is required to be chosen by the six Ethics Board members.
Five of the nineteen applicants spoke at the Ethics meeting. After their comments, Board Chairman Richard Herring polled the members and Mr. Rey received five votes.
After the informal discussion, a motion was made and Rey was unanimously selected by the Board.
Since 2012, Mr. Rey has worked with the Assistant General Counsel for the Florida Secretary of State. His responsibilities include negotiating vendor contracts, serving as in-house counsel for five divisions, and advising of ethics and public records issues.
More recently, Rey was an unsuccessful candidate for Leon County Commission Seat 3. After being asked about his campaign and possible future runs, he informed the Board he was not interested in running for office in the near future.
I am familiar with Mr. Rey from his run for county commission. Mr. Rey is anything but a “leftist socialist USA hater.” I really wish people would refrain from ad hominem attacks and wait to criticize policy decisions only. It would make reading the one good paper we have (TR) much more enjoyable.
Carlos is a good man. Great choice for the position. I’ve worked with him in the past. Great ethics.
Having interviewed Carlos Rey when he ran for office I finished the interview very impressed with his philosophy. I think he has a distinct “north” on his compass. This is a very good decision by the Ethics Board.
There is nothing in the article to suggest Mr. Rey is not a crazy leftist socialist USA hater annoying addition to the board whos sole reason to exist is to provide cover for all the dirt COT employees get away with.
So given the history as we know it that is all we can assume Mr. Rey brings to the table.
Anyway congrats on being selected Mr. Rey.
I’m sure you will fit in or they would not have selected you.
Great choice, Congratulations Mr. Rey.
Does anyone really believe that Carlos Rey won’t use his spot as Ethics Board for his own advantage? The board has become a total joke. Just an opportunity for elected officials, city staff and lobbyists to tempt future politicians with preferable treatment for turning a blind eye.
Good choice! Mr. Rey was a good candidate and he exudes a passion for public service rather than politics… Which is exactly what is needed.
