The latest information from the Tallahassee International Airport shows that passenger traffic increased in January by 10.9% when compared to traffic one year ago. The number of passengers was up from 63,146 during last January to 70,016 this year.
The Passenger Traffic Report shows passenger counts increased for the three major carriers. American was up 20.0%, the Delta Group was up 2.2% and Silver Airways was up 9.2%.
The graph below shows the annualized number of passengers for the last 24-months. The annual rate of passengers at TIA in January was 873,072. This is 7.63% above the annualized rate reported during this month last year. The annualized number of passengers is calculated by summing the previous 12 months of traffic.
The annualized passenger traffic before the Great Recession was approximately 947,000 in 2007.

Interesting that the traffic at the airport is up from a year ago given that plane tickets out of Tallahassee are considerably higher than surrounding airports.
City of Tallahassee should eliminate long term parking fees. Last I heard it was $10 per day. If it was free, more people would fly out of Tallahassee. I know people who have flown out of Jacksonville instead due to free parking (and of course, cheaper flights). I think doing away with parking fees will help boost traffic at our airport. But I know how the City of Tallahassee likes to make money off of people.
Most likely, traffic is up last month because that’s when the legislative session started.
Last year, it started later, March 5 to be exact.
