UPDATED March 19th, 6:00 PM

After talking to various officials, TR has decided to stop tracking the number of tests administered. TR had been reporting testing numbers posted on the Florida DOH website. However, the Leon County numbers reported by DOH were inconsistent with the reports we were getting from local officials.

It appears that so many different groups -private & public – are administering tests that the numbers reported on the state website are incomplete.

TR will continue to report the number of positive cases and the number of deaths based on the Florida DOH website.

The information provided by the Florida Department of Health as of March 19th, 6:00 PM, show that 4 people in Leon County have tested positive for the coronavirus. There has been 1 death in Leon County.

Wow, that is naive. Sounds like you’re the victim of fake news. There’s more cases in cities because there’s more people! If you’re a rural Trumpster you are not safer, just dumber. Also, large cities have more crime because, again, there are more people, not because of Democratic governments. Rural areas tend to be more conservative and less diverse. Cities have more diversity and lean more liberal. That doesn’t mean there aren’t conservatives in cities; there may be more than in lower population rural counties. Did you know California had 3,100,000 more votes for Trump than Alabama? So much for the false narrative that Hillary won the popular vote by 3,000,000 votes because California. Maybe you should get out more.

It is now coming out that the numbers are flawed. The so-called “experts” have now publicly admitted that any and all deaths – that can be even remotely associated with CV in any way – are being reported as a death “caused by” Covid-19.

This is what happens when you let agenda-driven, taxpayer-funded, and grant-dependent “scientists” play with a modified SIMs game.

That’s like comparing a marathon runner’s time from a guy who just finished the race to one who just started. Makes zero sense. Think of degrees of contagion and exponential spread and then run the numbers. I get people didn’t want to worry about this at first but anyone with their head still in the sand by now, I guess will only wake up when they’re standing over the casket of someone they love. Otherwise, I don’t think you’re going to be convinced.

Liberal: I feel or think this way, so EVERYONE must also feel or think as I do. In fact, I want laws that compel everyone to feel or think as I do. Any difference should be illegal.

Conservative: I feel or think this way, and I’m fine with that. Others may feel or think differently, that’s their business as long as they don’t try to make it mine.

Liberals, try walking off your Dem-Socialist Thought Plantation for awhile, and see how quickly other Liberals ostracize and condemn you.

    EIGHT PEOPLE?!?!?!
Only Eight tests ran for all of Leon County? And that shouldn’t even include the one positive that’s out of the Country so let’s say only SEVEN tests have been taken.
Does everyone realize that three Leon County Schools sent hundreds of kids to New York and kids returned Saturday the 14th with a high grade fever and dry coughs? They stayed at Motels less than 4 miles from an outbreak hotspot.

Everyone in Tallahassee who is has a false sense of security because TMH hasn’t reported a positive case better wake up a smell the coffee.

45 should be fired!! Not a problem, only a few cases, gone soon, stock market looking great, on and on minimizing the entire catastrophe. Then….a few days later….I knew all along that it was going to be a pandemic. Seriously!!???!?!!!

The person or people responsible are those that allowed the children, faculty, and chaperones to go on this trip to New York. 45 has nothing to do with this virus.
If President Trump hadn’t closed travel to and from China we would have things like Italy. The amount of those deceased in Italy is higher than China. Italy didn’t do anything until the situation was dire.

Why doesn’t this man give the name of the doctor that supposedly told him to come to the testing site? It seems to me that he didn’t go through the proper channels to get tested and they should’ve refused to test him in my opinion. He needs the doctor to properly request that he have a test. That is following the directions, but most of the morons in American don’t follow directions.

The Mayor of Tallahassee should issue a open for business order at the end of the week. That way, the Mayor of Gainesville and other localities will follow suit. The two week lockdown was a good idea to stem the tide, so to speak… but its time to et back on track. Travel restrictions and border closing should stay in place indefinitely, in an effort to prevent a reemergence. We know who the most vulnerable are and how to protect them. Time for common sense to reenter the picture.

      Ask yourself this:
WHY is the MSM “demanding” national lockdowns (As the NY Times demanded of Trump on Mar. 25)?
Why do the Dem-Socialists and their media allies daily scream hysterical and dire headlines and wring every bit of fear they can out of this virus mess?
Why does the MSM seem to quash any good or hopeful news and try to discredit any news of drugs that seem effective and treating and-or curing the virus?

      Then ask yourself this:
If you’re the Dem-Socialists and the MSM, what can you gain from nationwide economic lockdowns and ginning up maximum fear and hysteria?
How can you best prevent Trump from restarting the economy and gradually overcoming this virus?
Which above environment is the best opportunity for Dem-Socialists to try and seize more power?

        @Mike –

This is the dumbest goddamn thing I have ever read.

Does anyone out there think that Italy went into a nation wide shutdown because they watched too much CNN? Did Spain? Is Germany in a lockdown because they hate Trump so much? Why did Japan go into a lockdown? Why did France? Why has Israel closed it’s borders? Did Boris Johnson order a lockdown of England because he read too much of the ‘Dem-Socialist’ MSM? Why did Trump extend our weak implementation of social distancing a full month? Is he a ‘Dem Socialist’ now?

Jesus Christ, Mike, usually it’s just funny to watch the mouthbreathers grunt philosophically while looking like idiots, but in this case, people who follow your advice, or your advice to congregate and ‘open for business’, could get themselves killed. What’s more, it might be someone that I know and care about. Get bent.

Keep in mind the government has no idea what the real mortality rate is because those people who got sick and never reported it especially in January and February are not included in the denominator for the calculation of the death rate. The current rate of 1.7 percent is way off base and more likely than not when this is all said and done will be very close of the 1 tenth of 1 percent that the Swine Flu had. This is hype at its greatest level. Rational thought is out the window.

Hospitalizations is a good metric to track; it is this number that we are trying to reduce while social distancing. If you get hospitalized with COVID19, you are likely to be staying there for a few days, and if you goto ICU, can be there for 10 days+ (if you live). Once we hit capacity in our hospitals and especially ICU units is when things get dark. In New York paramedics are being advised not to try to transport people with cardiac arrest if they do not show response to initial CPR attempts. There is no room at the hospital, and no one to do CPR on someone who is very unlikely to survive. This is happening now.

We also do not have an infinite supply of nurses and physicians to throw into hallways filled with sick people. When they get sick, they either work sick and infect the non-sick, or stay home, and leave the hospitals short staffed. If they happen to die, that resource takes a long time to replace. Also, there were like, our neighbors and friends and sisters and stuff. So we should be doing what we can to make their jobs a little easier.

Our hospitals were not built with sustained, large surges in mind. Hospitals do not keep 50% of hospital beds open and waiting; hospitals are built to what the market can support because it is not profit effective to do otherwise. So when we see a sudden increase in people who need the hospital, and need it for a while, and the same exact thing is happening to every hospital in the state simultaneously, we run into a situation where *everyone* is waiting for medical attention, because a third of our doctors are sick, and every single room and hallway in the hospital is full of coughing people. If you don’t have COVID and have a heart attack, you’ll get COVID in the hospital filled with sick people and sick nurses.

    Stay home, everyone.

If you want to lock yourself in your home to stay safe, by all means go ahead. Why does your plan to stay safe have to be forced onto the rest of us?

Just because every other country is doing lockdowns doesn’t make what he said incorrect, nor does it make doing them here any less immoral or unconstitutional. America used to be different than every other country. Just because we have gone down the big govt path that every other country has and now that we have a govt that is allowed to deprive us of our freedom under the guise of “helping” us doesn’t make doing so righteous or smart. It’s not surprising that we’re subscribing everyone else’s method because there isn’t much different between systems any more.
But regardless of whether you believe lockdowns are a good method and the previous poster may not, why not just live and let live? If you want to seal yourself in your house to be safe, no one will stop you. Why is it right if the rest of us are forced to follow your example, in much the same way that you want America itself to follow the example set by other countries?
And as for being a dumb hill to die on, just allowing the govt to use this virus as an excuse to destroy our freedoms without at least raising a questioning voice doesn’t sound very smart either. Govt kills way more people than the coronavirus ever will.

Yes, it *does* make it incorrect, namely, the idea that this is a ‘ruse and manufactured hysteria designed to destroy our economy and Republic.’ Think about how stupid an idea this is; that every industrialized country has shut down their economies as a ‘ruse’. This is a fundamentally incorrect statement, and believing otherwise is absurd.

“Just because we have gone down the big govt path that every other country has and now that we have a govt that is allowed to deprive us of our freedom under the guise of “helping” us doesn’t make doing so righteous or smart.”

Mitigating the spread of disease is smart though. Reducing the number of people who die is righteous though. I mean, ‘just because *every single other country* has done something doesn’t mean we should because my fringe belief system is superior’ is a horrible argument.

“But regardless of whether you believe lockdowns are a good method and the previous poster may not, why not just live and let live?”

They are a good method at stopping the spread of disease. To believe otherwise is to ignore an abundance of medical and biological knowledge. Why would we do otherwise?

Why not ‘just live and let live’? Because if people in Tallahassee follow his advice, someone I know *might die*. That’s why. Because his advice is a good way to insure *more* people get COVID, and one of those people might be someone I care about.

“Why is it right if the rest of us are forced to follow your example, in much the same way that you want America itself to follow the example set by other countries?”

Because this is what application of the scientific method tells us, as opposed to a first graders recitation of American Exceptionalism. This is the way to reduce the number of people being infected. Because if you are in a group of a hundred and fifty people and you are the only one doing something that everyone else thinks is dangerous, it isn’t because you are edgy and exceptional and a rugged individualist, it means you are acting recklessly.

“And as for being a dumb hill to die on, just allowing the govt to use this virus as an excuse to destroy our freedoms without at least raising a questioning voice doesn’t sound very smart either.”

There is a difference between ‘raising a questioning voice’ and ‘spouting out nonsense that is easily observed to be false’. Want to have a voice at the table? Don’t argue that the Earth is flat, that climate change isn’t real, or that COVID is a big ‘ruse’. If you want your ideas to be taken seriously, they can’t be intellectually bankrupt.

Haha freedom is a fringe belief? Now we’re really in trouble.
I never said the virus wasn’t real. It’s real and some people have died. But it’s not in any way a reason to prohibit people’s freedom of movement, or force privately owned businesses into bankruptcy.
Who are you to determine what is righteous? Let me guess, what is righteous pretty much coincides with your viewpoint. Do you try to force others into your religion too? If “righeous” means you get to force businesses to close and force people out of work, what do you consider unethical?
“Someone I know might die”? How could they die when you’re bolted inside your house? If the lockdowns are a “good method at stopping the disease”, and your family is locked down, how could anyone in your family possibly get it? What you wrote makes no sense.
And even if it did, why does your family trump anyone else’s? Anyone in anyone’s family can die an infinite number of ways. How many of those ways should cause me to lose my freedom to go where I choose, or friends of mine to lose their business?
None of your response explains why we can’t just adhere to our individual beliefs. You can look out your window at other people “acting recklessly” by going to the beach or whatever daredevil, live-on-the-razor’s-edge activity they want to engage in. You’ll be safe from all of the insane park-goers.
Quarantining is restricting the movement of sick people. Tyranny is restricting the movement of healthy people.
You are free to quarantine all you want. I would never try to stop you from staying inside for as long as your masters on tv and in govt tell you to. Why can’t you show others the same courtesy?

    @Jason –

“Haha freedom is a fringe belief? ”

No, the belief that if *you* go out and get exposed then *you* are the only person you are putting at risk. It’s a fringe belief because it is a deeply flawed understanding of the science of disease transmission. It is a fringe belief in the same way that the world is flat, or climate change is not real is a fringe belief.

“But it’s not in any way a reason to prohibit people’s freedom of movement, or force privately owned businesses into bankruptcy.”

We restrict freedom of movement all the time. You cannot hitchhike on the interstate, drive down highway 90 going 120 mph, or drive drunk. We do all of those things for the common good.

“Who are you to determine what is righteous?”

Encouraging people undertake behaviors known to increase the risk of a pandemic is the opposite of righteous, I know that much.

“Do you try to force others into your religion too?”

I have no religious affiliation. For what it’s worth, I don’t think churches should be tax exempt, either. Wanna pray to Santa Claus? Go ahead, what do I care?

” If “righeous” means you get to force businesses to close and force people out of work, what do you consider unethical?”

Desperate times call for desperate measures. We aren’t doing this for no reason, we are doing it to keep our hospitals from being over run. Unethical would be intentionally doing things known to make the situation worse; i.e., ‘open everything up’.

“If the lockdowns are a “good method at stopping the disease”, and your family is locked down, how could anyone in your family possibly get it? What you wrote makes no sense.”

For starters, you don’t seem to understand people I might care about could extend to people who are not my family. What if someone I care about (or someone in my family) works for a grocery store, or drives for UPS, or works in an elderly care facility? What then? In those situations, if a small number of people are interacting, it *reduces* the chances of those people working in essential services from catching the disease. If a large number of people are interacting, it *increases* the chance people working in those industries catch the disease. What a classic Conservative thought process though, complexly unable to process there might be people other than myself that I might care about while being 100% ignorant about the rudimentary science underlying disease transmission. Also, ‘Tyranny!’

“And even if it did, why does your family trump anyone else’s?”

We are doing this for *everyone*, not just for me. You don’t think I am being inconvenienced? You don’t think I’m losing money? I happen to be able to think that we are in this together, not as a set of rugged individuals.

“How many of those ways should cause me to lose my freedom to go where I choose, or friends of mine to lose their business?”

When they are acting recklessly in a manner that is likely to cause *people to get sick and maybe die*. Jesus Christ, is it that hard to understand? I’m not happy anyone is losing their business, but please stop pretending that the right of the individual to sell whatever service is more important than the social good. This is why, for example, we have child labor laws, or driving drunk is against the law, or we have no strip clubs in Leon county; because while it does infringe on someone’s freedom to some extent, the benefit of the law outweighs the cost of personal freedoms being curtailed.

“Tyranny is restricting the movement of healthy people.”

Don’t you understand that people are asymptomatic, but capable of spreading the disease for days?

“Why can’t you show others the same courtesy?”

Imagine I told you I just wanted to drive drunk, and since you will be home on Friday nights, it won’t affect you, so just be courteous, and let my freedoms be. Being courteous does not entail giving equal credence to beliefs that are contradiction to what the scientific method tells us about disease transmission. Being courteous does not mean you get to put the entire community at risk because otherwise you think you are under ‘tyranny’.

You’re comparing apples to oranges. You can’t forbid me from driving because I might drive drunk. Have you ever driven a car? Look around, there are other drivers all over the place. They aren’t prevented from driving until they exhibit signs of being impaired. Anything could happen to anyone. You can’t tie everyone to their beds just because they might do something to you.

Don’t fool yourself that you’re a forward thinker because you advocate dictatorial, one-size-fits-all punishment of the infected and non-infected alike. That kind of thing is great for sheep and submissives Just don’t force it onto the rest of us. Even in biblical times when leprosy was raging, the healthy people could still go outside

As for the Publix and UPS workers, they made a choice. Everyone knows the risks by now. No “essential business” is worth dying for, is it? They’re adults, let them decide. If they don’t want to risk the virus, they can stay inside. But if they are willing to take the risks in order to continue getting a paycheck, then they have to accept the consequences.

It’s not your job to save everyone, especially those that don’t want your efforts. Worry about yourself and your loved ones. If you stay in your crypt until you get the all clear, you should be fine. And if not, then these lockdowns didn’t work anyway.

By the way, there’s no such thing as “the public good”. There is only the individual good. Just like there’s no such thing as public health. Health is individual too. Public good would imply that we all agree on what good is, and since that’s not the case, worry about yourself and don’t affect the way others choose to live their lives.

Sweden hasn’t done a lockdown. They have bars, night clubs, you name it, all open. Their numbers are very similar to neighboring countries. No one seems to want to talk about that.
