30.5% actually. LTC Report (current cases as of 5/7) shows TDC with 76 positive cases. 32 Residents, and 44 Staff.

So the TDC represents 13% of Leon Co Total Positive….if you are talking residents only.

I think I read about LTC places in the US “housing” staff members on site but not sure if TDC does this. Majority of TDC positive cases are Staff members. If they don’t bunk at TDC, they are/were (when tested positive) elsewhere in the county. More staff members tested positive than the residents.

To those of you who think we should stay shut down and hide in our homes. you have the right not to go back to work due to your fears of a virus. But shouldn’t I have a right not to pay taxes to subsidize those who choose to stay home because they don’t want to work? Those who need to stay home for real health issues should be the ones we are supporting not those who just see a free ride at the taxpayers expense and use this coronavirus as an excuse. Some people are legitimately concerned and are able to work from home and that is great. I am one of those. I have not lost a paycheck. some people can’t feed their families because of the fear mongering and they’ve lost their businesses and their jobs. If you’re staying at home and belittling those who want to go back to work then don’t order anything from Amazon or any takeout or even go to the grocery store. Why should those people have to leave their houses to provide you with necessities when you think others should stay at home and let the economy crash. If the soldiers who fought in World War II and other wars to protect our freedom had Allowed their fear to send them into hiding we wouldn’t have freedom to give away so easily. Their chances of being killed in war were greater than our chances of being killed by the coronavirus. They had guns and we have masks and hand sanitizer. I think we have a better chance of surviving than they did. So let us get back to work in this great nation in a safe manner and not live in fear because that will destroy us quicker than the coronavirus. If you want to stay at home then make sure you are not doing it at taxpayer expense. If you are able to work from home remember the grocery store clerks, truckers and those who deliver packages, the meatpacking plants and others that produce the necessities we need can’t stay at home. so quit being a hypocrite.

    Updated on May 8, 2020 @ 11:30am:

5 of the 6 deaths reported in Leon County have come from one place – the Tallahassee Developmental Center. I’m betting that a great many of the total number of positive cases in our county have also come from this location. So despite what the City, County & CEO of TMH would have us believe, Leon County is probably not a hotbed of COVID-19 activity.

The pain, death, and destruction being experienced by America, Americans, and our economy as a result of China’s egregious malfeasance… has now officially transitioned into a full-blown Democrat Party Campaign strategy. The more America and Americans suffer, the happier they are… and they don’t even hide it anymore.

I believe we may be witnessing the most extraordinary, malicious, and nefarious election meddling scheme of our lifetime. The Democrats hatred for America and Americans, and their lust for the destruction of our Great Republic, knows no boundaries and carries no empathy for the innocent… particularly children and the elderly. Be smart, watch your six, protect yourselves and your families, and may God bless us all.

I’m not sure who compiles these statistics for TR, and I’m equally unsure as to why they are presented in the fashion that they are. As shown, they don’t really show an accurate and recent “trend”. As you know, the more recent the “trend”, the more accurate picture is painted as to virus activity in Leon County. For example, the text displayed in the May 2nd update shows 233 total positive cases and 3,176 total negative cases – which is a running total for both dating back to whenever they started tracking these cases – which I’m assuming is around 2 months ago.

Wouldn’t it be more informative and accurate to track positive and negative cases on a DAILY basis as a percentage of the total number of tests administered? This is how the State is doing it now. For example, the numbers below are from FDOH. They clearly show that since April 13th, the percentage of daily positive cases confirmed in the State when compared with the number of daily tests administered has gone down from 9.4 to 4.8, which is substantial, and provided some of the data points that led to leaders loosening the lock down measures.

    DATE TESTED CONFIRMED PERCENTAGE

    13-Apr 9926 930 9.4
    14-Apr 7358 595 8.1
    15-Apr 10941 909 8.3
    16-Apr 17244 1203 7.0
    17-Apr 14189 1088 7.7
    18-Apr 10300 746 7.2
    19-Apr 10713 717 6.7
    20-Apr 11778 753 6.4
    21-Apr 14160 867 6.1
    22-Apr 12630 709 5.6
    23-Apr 21280 1224 5.8
    24-Apr 15575 744 4.8
    25-Apr 19337 801 4.1
    26-Apr 10259 522 5.1
    27-Apr 13557 763 5.6
    28-Apr 8261 347 4.2
    29-Apr 11331 520 4.6
    30-Apr 21053 1012 4.8

However, when TR displays text for Leon County, it paints a much different picture. For example, using your “running total” (as opposed to daily total) method, on the April 13th update, you state that Leon County had a 7.6% positive rate. But, in the May 2nd update, the positive rate in Leon County was still 6.8%.

I’m predicting that if you compiled and displayed the statistics for Leon County the same way the FDOH does for the entire state, it would be much, much lower. For example, state it this way:

“On (X) date in Leon County, (X) number of people were tested. Of that total, X tested positive and X tested negative.” (you can exclude the inconclusive tests since their numbers are marginal anyway). Then calculate the % of positive tests when compared with the total number tested. That is the only statistically accurate way to display a credible trend, which is what everyone is interested in.

Important accurate information should not be suppressed by authorities. There appears to be major corruption in the system suppressing that there are known effective ways to reduce coronavirus risk and treatments documented to treat effectively- used effectively by other countries where the system is not controlled by special interests- as it is in the U.S.

The “Hospital” field shows the number of cases that were hospitalized of the total cases – that’s why the number doesn’t go down. It’s not the number currently in the hospital.

All of the cases should be resolved from a couple week ago so that should leave about 10 in the hospital and maybe 50 confirmed cases. About 10 per 100k.

The longer we stay locked up the less immunity you will have for other diseases from virus and bacteria. There are both good and bad virus and bacteria. There is going to be a flood of disease after the lock down is over. This is not going to end up very pretty. The ignorance on here is astounding.

If you REALLY want to Help, try giving out the Names of those who live in Leon County that test Positive for Covid-19. That will help a LOT. A second Person where I work tested Positive and with my Job, I interact with a LOT of People daily and if I knew who these two were, I would know if I am at risk as well and will go get tested. Some at the DJJ Office Building just tested positive too. They are not releasing the Names so, that means EVERYONE these 3 hung out with or Mingled with could ALSO have it and not know and could be passing it to others as I type this. Screw the Right to Privacy, put their Names out there.

Even though I am not IN that section, I do have to interact with a few people that ARE in that section.

The 4/22 5pm FDOH report shows a total of 187 cases and 2 deaths. The actual detail lists three cases dated 4/22 rather than just one more….as for some reason two previously (17th & 20th) reported cases have been dropped from the report. Report does state “provisional and subject to change” but I still find it odd.

James, don’t be ridiculous. It’s NOT the flu. The death rates are far above normal and we are not at the peak yet.

The original estimate of deaths into the millions were based on a 50% compliance rate for staying at home/social distancing.

While the numbers only reflect those who are tested (and even that is weeks behind), they are “low” because of greater widespread compliance. Drop that and the numbers will skyrocket.

Just ONE infected person is thought to have infected Albany, GA and their hospitalization is now over 1,400 with almost 100 deaths in just a few weeks.

That could still be us if we stop preventative measures.

I personally don’t have a problem with Trumpies holding their rallies and opening businesses so they can soak in their infection stew.

Just stay far, far away from the rest of us–and that includes burdening the hospitals too.

You guys want no medical care for anyone. You got it. Put your money where your mouth is.

How could anyone not stay far, far away from you if you’re locked in your house? Why do you have to even say this? Who’s trying to get into your crypt?

“And that includes burdening the hospitals too”. You want to tell people they’re not allowed to go to hospitals? Who are you? There are people who need to leave their homes in order to work so they can feed their families.

“You guys want no medical care for anyone”. Who are you referring to? Are you implying there are people out there who don’t want medical care, even for themselves? Name me someone whose position is “no one shall receive medical care”. The position of a lot of people is they don’t want to pay for the medical care of strangers. Why do you have a problem with free adults assessing the risks and making the best decision for them and their families? If someone goes out and gets the coronavirus, how does that affect you? You’ve made the decision to stay inside. If lockdowns actually work, how could you be in any danger?

No one is talking about the pool of people that is needed to yield 155 confirmed cases. Based on Florida numbers, it takes approx 35,000 infected people to yield 155.

Jim, I can see how it may appear misleading when you have 30 positive one day and zero the next. The 30 was a result of an isolated cluster of cases from the developmental center in which everyone was tested at the same time. If the 30 came from random people that were not in close contact with each other it would have been more alarming and would suggest that the numbers in the subsequent days would continue to increase from general community spread. Tallahassee is not there yet though and hopefully never will be. The zero the following day were confirmed positives. Sometimes results are still taking up to 72 hours so if someone was tested yesterday and gets results 3 days later that are positive the results will be reflected on the day the results were received and not taken. It may be more accurate to look at 3 day averages. Either way, what Leon county is doing is working and as long as we keep this up we will get though this with minimal casualties. If everyone remains socially responsible and keeps adhering to guidelines I do not forsee a massive surge beyond the numbers we have seen thus far.

My opinion only but I feel that Corona is causing way to much fear and panic! We’ve shut down our country. How can we tell mitigation has made a big difference in saving hundreds of thousands of lives. We went down that slippery slope with our reactions and media coverage and political coverage. Italy reclassified their deaths and found only 12% due to Corona. That was said by the Minister of health if Italy. We like they did initially classified all deaths Covid instead of heart disease, sepsis, respiratory failure, etc. similar percentages would have the US with around 3,000 right now.
Look at hospitalizations. That’s the best measure I feel.
Silver lining we will learn from this and the public will be better with personal hygiene, infection control, etc

In a quantitative inorganic lab class I had as an undergrad, our professor said that; “5% or less contamination here is considered negligible/a non-issue.” I’ve carried that with me since and have expanded it to consider something on sale for 5% off to be also a bit funny.

However, at nearly 8% with this contagious @#$% things around here are starting to get real.

Just thought everyone should know, TCC and FHP are in direct violation of the governor’s order that “all” college campuses be closed to students. Pat Thomas Law academy ( Florida Public Safety Institute), is a Tallahassee Community College campus. All other law enforcement agencies have sent their student’s home and or they are taking classes remotely. With the exception of Florida Highway Patrol recruits/student’s. These recruits/student’s, are traveling home on the weekend’s to highly contagious area’s of the state, then returning to campus the following Monday. Further risking the spread of Covid-19
