At today’s City Commission retreat, Tallahassee Police Department Chief Lawrence Revell said that TPD is preparing to respond to possible violence this weekend and next week related to the Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and the end of President Donald Trump’s term.
Earlier this week, after rioters stormed the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., the FBI warned that similar attacks could occur in state capitols.
Revell said TPD is aware of the situation and preparing for it.
“I’ve canceled days off for all of our officers starting Saturday, and that will go through Thursday of next week,” he said.
He said TPD is also coordinating with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and other law enforcement agencies as well as the FBI.
“We will ensure that we are fully staffed to handle any issue that may arise,” Revell said.
He said that TPD currently has no knowledge of a specific threat in Tallahassee.
