Leon County Jobs Grow in September, Still Lag Pre-COVID Levels

The latest jobs report shows that there were 152,390 people working in Leon County in September, which is 3,490 more than last month’s revised employment number.

The September unemployment rate came in at 4.0%, down from the 4.7% reported last month. One year ago the September, 2020 unemployment rate was 5.6%. In September, 2019 the unemployment rate was 2.9%.

Due to the COVID pandemic, 2020 job comparisons are not as meaningful as comparisons to 2019 job data. Therefore, the Leon County Jobs Report, provided below, includes 2019 data.

The number of people working in September 2021 was 1,295 less than those working in September 2019, but is 7,857 more than in September 2020.

The September labor force – those looking for jobs – came in at 158,749, which was 497 greater than the number reported in August 2019.

The chart below shows the monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last 37 months with a 12-month average trend line. The highlighted numbers relate to employment levels for the month of August back to 2018.
