Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Scott-Hanowell, Lozano, & Doughty

With the first week of girls high school volleyball in the books, it is time to recognize exceptional performances by the varsity players.

Based on an analysis of statistics provide to MaxPreps -the official scores and statistics provider for the Florida High School Athletic Association, Delaney Scott-Hanowell of Chiles Highs School, Lauren Tayor Lozano of Lincoln High School, and Ally Doughty of Chiles High School have been named TR’s Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week for week one of the season.

Offensive Player of the Week

Delaney Scott-Hanowell

During Chiles two victories over Florida High and Lincoln, Delaney Scott-Hanowell – a junior middle hitter – had 19 kills in 40 attempts with one error, for a hitting percentage of 45%. For reference, an average hitting percentage for a good team is approximately 25%.

Scott-Hanowell also had 5 blocks in the two victories.

Defensive Player of the Week

L.T. Lozano

Lauren Taylor Lozano – a junior libero for the Lincoln Trojans – recorded 34 digs in two games, averaging 4.9 digs per set. A dig is awarded when a defensive player successfully passes a ball that has been determined to be an attack attempt by the opponent.

In addition, Lozano attempted 85 service returns with just 5 errors, for a 94% service return percentage. The average service return percentage for a good team ranges between 85% and 90%.

Server of the Week

Ally Doughty

Ally Doughty – the senior libero for Chiles – finished the week with 41 service attempts over 8 sets with only one error. This is a 97.6% serving percentage. The average serving percentage for a good team ranges between 88%-92%.

During Doughty’s 41 attempts Chiles scored 31 points for an average of 0.76 points per service attempt. The average points per service attempt for a good team ranges between 0.50 to .55.

In addition, Doughty added 5 aces during the two game span.

Methodology

The leading statistics analyzed for Offensive Player of the Week are kills, hitting errors, and blocks.

The leading statistics analyzed for Defensive Player of the Week are digs, service returns, and service return errors.

The Server of the Week is based on serving percentage, aces and points scored on service attempts.

To qualify for Player of the Week, a players teams statistics from games that were completed during the week, Saturday-Friday, must be available on MaxPreps by the following Sunday at 6pm.
