Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Steward, Wenhold & Sutherland

Dyani Steward of Lincoln High School, Madison Wenhold of Florida Sate University High School and Skyla Sutherland, also of Lincoln High School, have been named TR’s Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week for week two of the season, ending September 2nd.

The awards are based on an analysis of statistics provide to MaxPreps – the official scores and statistics provider for the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Offensive Player of the Week

Dyani Steward

During Lincoln’s two victories over Leon and Sneads, Dyani Steward – a senior outside hitter – had 30 kills in 91 attempts with 11 errors. Seventeen of Steward’s kills came in the five set win over Leon.

Steward also added 3 blocks in the two victories and contributed 24 service returns.

Defensive Player of the Week

Madison Wenhold – a junior libero & defensive specialist for the Florida High Seminoles – recorded 30 digs in two games, averaging 5.0 digs per set.

A dig is awarded when a defensive player successfully passes a ball that has been determined to be an attack attempt by the opponent.

In addition, Wenhold attempted 61 service returns with just 7 errors, for a 90% service return percentage. The average service return percentage for a good team ranges between 85% and 90%.

Server of the Week

Skyla Sutherland

Skyla Sutherland – a senior outside hitter for Lincoln High School – finished the week with 33 service attempts over 8 sets with only two errors. This is a 93.9% serving percentage. The average serving percentage for a good team ranges between 88%-92%.

In addition, Sutherland added 7 aces during the two game span when Lincoln went 2-0 and beat cross town rival Leon High School.

Methodology

The leading statistics analyzed for Offensive Player of the Week are kills, hitting errors, and blocks.

The leading statistics analyzed for Defensive Player of the Week are digs, service returns, and service return errors.

The Server of the Week is based on serving percentage, aces and points scored on service attempts.

To qualify for Player of the Week, a players teams statistics from games that were completed during the week, Saturday-Friday, must be available on MaxPreps by the following Sunday at 6pm.
