Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Young, Doughty, & Koerner

Keldri Young of Florida State University High School, Ally Doughty of Chiles High School and Ashlyn Koerner of Lincoln High School have been named TR’s Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week for week five of the season, ending September 23rd.

The awards are based on an analysis of statistics provided to MaxPreps – the official scores and statistics provider for the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Week One: Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Scott-Hanowell, Lozano, & Doughty

Week Two: Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Steward, Wenhold & Sutherland

Week Three: Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Johnson, Stewart, & Hultquist

Week Four: Leon County High School Volleyball Players of the Week: Haggins, Hill & Johnson

Offensive Player of the Week

Keldri Young – a senior outside hitter for Florida High – finished the week with 18 kills in 2 matches and a hitting percentage of 36.8% . Her hitting percentage during the week was above her season hitting average of 33.2%.

In Florida High’s 3-set victory over Lincoln High School, Young had a hitting percentage of 41.7%.

Young has committed to play college volleyball at Texas Southern University.

Defensive Player of the Week

Ally Doughty – a libero with Chiles High School – recorded 42 digs for the week in 4 matches, averaging 3.8 digs per set.

A dig is awarded when a defensive player successfully passes a ball that has been determined to be an attack attempt by the opponent.

In addition, Doughty fielded 58 serves with 5 return errors during the week for a 91.4% service return rate. In Chiles’ 5-set victory over district foe Niceville, Doughty fielded 30 service returns with one error.

The average service return percentage for a good team ranges between 85% and 90%.

Server of the Week

Ashlyn Koerner – a junior setter with Lincoln High School – finished the week with 59 service attempts and 3 errors, a 94.9% serving percentage.

Koerner added 9 aces, a 15.3% ace percentage. The average ace percentage is in the range of 10%-13%.

Methodology

The leading statistics analyzed for Offensive Player of the Week are kills, hitting errors, and blocks.

The leading statistics analyzed for Defensive Player of the Week are digs, service returns, and service return errors.

The Server of the Week is based on serving percentage, aces and points scored on service attempts.

To qualify for Player of the Week, a players teams statistics from games that were completed during the week, Saturday-Friday, must be available on MaxPreps by the following Sunday at 6pm.
