On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the Downtown Community Redevelopment Commission (DRC) voted to support a project seeking a $7 million loan to build a 300 unit complex dedicated to workforce housing on a vacant lot at the corner of Bronough and West Tennessee streets.

The Florida Association of Realtors recently released their 2022 report on single-family homes sales in Florida. The report indicates the single family transactions in the Tallahassee MSA was down 14.3% in 2022 and the median sales price came in at $310,00, up 13.3%. Get the details.

Cora Ann Chapman, 86, passed away February 17, 2023, at her residence in Tallahassee. She was very active in her community and was a member of Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church. She was a member of NEBA where she was secretary for nine years; Capital City Republican Club; Capital Conservatives; Tallahassee Woman’s Club, Marzuq Shrine Ladies and Hillbillies; and Springtime Tallahassee.


Former Sarasota County Commissioner Christian Ziegler has been elected as the new chairman of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF). He will lead the party into the 2024 elections, succeeding outgoing Chairman Joe Gruters, who did not seek another term. Ziegler was elected as GOP chairman on Saturday during a meeting in Orlando, beating Leon County Republican Chairman Evan Power in the race to become state party leader. Power will serve as vice chairman, according to a press release from RPOF.

Lobbying firms received an estimated $164.4 million for their work in the Legislature in 2022, a major increase from the two previous years, according to a new state report on lobbyist compensation. Firms collected an estimated $153.6 million for legislative lobbying in 2021 and $139.2 million in 2020, reports show. Firms faced a Tuesday deadline for filing reports showing compensation for the final three months of 2022. The numbers are estimates, because firms mostly report compensation in ranges. During the fourth quarter of 2022, firms collected about $40.7 million, according to a compilation posted on the state lobbyist-registration website.

  1. Who is on the DRC Board? Who appointed the DRC board members? How can they approve something so fiscally and ethically irresponsible? Even illegal? Do any of the DRC board members have a license regarding being a fiduciary? This decision is the most ludicrous, irresponsible and ethically reprehensible decision since the $25 million giveaway. It is clearly a sweetheart deal for someone in a poor attempt to disguise it as a benefit for taxpayers. This board should be disbanded immediately or face prosecution including the person(s) who appointed these members

  2. How many Jobs have the Amazon fulfillment center generated thus far? Is this 7 million for workforce housing adequate for both jobs?
