On Dec 22, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) successfully arrested six suspects and recovered six firearms after a complaint from a citizen.
TPD released the following information:
On Dec 22, TPD’s Patrol Bureau received a call that a suspect brandished a firearm. When officers arrived on scene, they quickly began an investigation. Subsequently, members of TPD’s Violent Crimes Response Teams, Special Investigations Section and the Juvenile Services Unit immediately began searching for known groups engaged in active feuds and planning violent acts against each other. With assistance from the Joint Aviation taskforce, officers were able to locate a vehicle associated with one of the groups in the 1600 block of Baldwin Park Drive.
Within hours of the initial incident, five males were observed getting into a vehicle wearing ski masks. Recognizing the gravity of the situation and the potential for violent activity, officers initiated a high-risk traffic stop and attempted to pin the vehicle near Roberts Avenue and Mabry Street. Two suspects immediately bailed out from the passenger side; one of them was seen pulling a semi-automatic firearm with a high-capacity magazine from his jacket pocket and pointing it at an officer. Fortunately, the suspect tripped and lost control of the firearm. He was quickly taken into custody without further incident.
As officers conducted the arrests, the driver of the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed but was eventually disabled at the corner of Yulee and Plant streets. The driver and two additional suspects, armed with an AR-15 pistol and an additional handgun, fled on foot. Two of the suspects were apprehended after attempting to discard their firearms, while a K-9 officer successfully tracked and apprehended the fourth suspect. A fifth suspect managed to evade capture.
On Dec. 27, during the ongoing investigation, officers located the vehicle frequented by the other involved group. Observing multiple suspects entering the vehicle, officers attempted a traffic stop. One suspect fled, leading to a brief foot pursuit and subsequent apprehension. Another suspect was taken into custody without incident, during which a stolen gun fell from his waistband.
