At the most recent Leon County School Board meeting, Superintendent discussed the financial challenges related to addressing teacher salary increases. Hanna was responding to the a query regarding the timing of teacher salary negotiations.

A shooting happened early Monday morning, leaving a teen injured. Police said around 4:16 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to the area of Linwood Drive and Stuart Street regarding a shooting. Officers rendered aid to the victim before the teen was taken to an area hospital.

A pedestrian was left with multiple serious injuries after being involved in a crash with a pickup truck during the overnight hours on Sunday. The incident occurred around 12:00 a.m. The pickup truck crashed into a pedestrian on Apalachee Parkway near Louvinia Drive. The pedestrian had serious injuries and the driver of the truck was not injured.

The Leon County Commission will meet today at 3:00 p.m.

LOCAL SPORTS NEWS

On Monday, two local teams lost in the second round of region tournament play for FHSAA girls basketball. In Class 5A, Rickards lost to Mainland, 52-42 and in Class 6A, Ponte Vedra defeated Lincoln 51-42.

After a dominant Opening Day win against Butler, sophomore Cam Leiter was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon. The Bayville, N.J., native struck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed just one hit over 5.0 innings in FSU’s 11-0 victory.

The Florida State softball team has announced changes to the upcoming Dugout Club Classic. Florida State will now play FIU in a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. Both games can be seen on ACCNX. Fans who originally purchased a ticket for Thursday’s game will be able to use that game for both of Thursday’s games.

Senate leaders have released a $900 million tax cut plan, incorporating some proposals from Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ budget recommendations to cut insurance premium taxes and increase an allowance for small businesses remitting sales taxes. The bill (SB 7074) would exempt flood insurance policies enacted or renewed after July 1 from premium taxes for one year.

Florida could soon reinstate primary runoffs for the first time since 2000. A Committee bill filed Monday (PCB SAC 6) for the House State Affairs Committee would call for a second Primary to be held whenever more than two candidates file for a partisan office. It’s a significant election reform that could substantially extend the election season in Florida — though not until the 2026 cycle.

Northeast Florida’s main air travel hub made a full recovery in 2023 from the airline passenger hit caused by COVID-19. In fact, Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) recorded more travelers shuffling through its gates than ever before.

  1. Regarding, “Northeast Florida’s Main Air Travel Hub”, I wonder how many flyers are traveling to Jacksonville from the Tallahassee hub region due to exhorbitant air fares out of Tallahassee. I’m betting some public records request of Jacksonville’s data might give us an idea, TR?
