Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office Announces Free Postage on Vote-by-Mail Ballots

Mark S. Earley, Supervisor of Elections for Leon County, recently announced free postage on Vote-by-Mail ballots.

“In furtherance of our mission to provide outstanding voter services, I want to remove barriers to voting and ensure all eligible voters can cast their ballot,” said Supervisor Earley. “In that spirit, I am happy to announce that starting with the 2024 Primary Election, voters will no longer need to pay the postage on Vote-by-Mail ballot return envelopes. I would like to thank the Leon County Commission for funding this important program in service to our voters.”

This new service means that voters who vote their ballot by mail will no longer need a stamp. Voters can still choose to drop off their Vote-by-Mail ballot in a secure ballot intake station located at each Early Voting site or at the Elections Office, so voters will have multiple free options to return their ballot.

“Eliminating the need for postage on Vote-by-Mail ballots will ensure that citizens are not hindered from exercising their right to vote,” said Leon County Commission Chair Carolyn D. Cummings. “This initiative empowers every voter to make their voices heard.”

Voters who wish to Vote-by-Mail in the 2024 Primary or General Elections are encouraged to request their ballots now. Mail ballot requests can be made online at LeonVotes.gov by clicking “Vote-by-Mail,” or by contacting the Elections Office at Vote@LeonVotes.gov, or (850) 606-8683. The deadline to request to be mailed a ballot for the Primary Election is 5 p.m. on August 8, while the deadline for the General Election is 5 p.m. on October 24.

The Elections Office has also redesigned the Vote-by-Mail ballot envelopes used in Leon County. These updates incorporate free postage, the latest United States Postal Service recommendations for election mail, and recent changes in Florida law.

  1. If you cannot afford a stamp to vote well you are probably a government dependent individual who doesn’t pay income tax.

  2. Ok, the postage is not “free”. It’s being paid for by those who pay taxes. If voting for the people who will lead your government isn’t sufficiently important to take the time to go to the polls to cast your vote…perhaps you should not vote.
