Breaking: Police Union “Slams” Porter & Inman-Johnson for Attending Forum Sponsored by Anti-Police Group

Today the Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA) Big Bend Chapter issued a press release condemning Tallahassee city commission candidates Jack Porter and Dot Inman-Johnson for attending a forum sponsored by the Tallahassee Community Action Committee (TCAC), a self-avowed socialist and anti-police group.

The press release stated that the group is “a far left-wing activist group that proudly boasts on its website (www.tallycac.com) about its anti-law enforcement platform that vilifies police officers, refers to cops as killers, and seeks to defund the police.”

TR reported that members of the group recently spoke at a Tallahassee city commission meeting and referred to TPD Chief Revell as a murderer.

Big Bend PBA President Richard Murphy is calling on Porter and Johnson to immediately denounce the TCAC’s blatant vilification and demonization of the police.

PBA President Richard Murphy said, “It is absolutely appalling to us that a sitting City Commissioner and a candidate for City Commission, would publicly associate themselves with a group that blatantly lies about cops and vilifies our law enforcement officers, who risk their lives daily to keep the public safe. Such an affiliation automatically disqualifies them for serving in an official capacity, paid by Tallahassee taxpayers, while overseeing policies that impact our law enforcement officers. The PBA is demanding that Jack Porter and Dot Johnson denounce this dangerous hate-filled group and issue an immediate apology for attending the forum on July 20th.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

THE FLORIDA PBA BIG BEND CHAPTER SLAMS CITY COMMISSIONER JACK PORTER AND CANDIDATE FOR CITY COMMISSION, DOT IMAN JOHNSON, FOR ATTENDING A PUBLIC FORUM BACKED BY ANTI LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVISTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TALLAHASSEE COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE

PBA PRESIDENT RICHARD MURPHY CALLS ON PORTER AND JOHNSON TO IMMEDIATELY CONDEMN THE TCAC’S EXTREME ANTI-LAW ENFORCEMENT PLATFORM THAT VILIFIES THE POLICE AND REFERS TO COPS AS ‘KILLERS’

TALLAHASSEE- On July 20, 2024, Tallahassee City Commissioner Jack Porter, along with Dot Iman Johnson, a candidate for Tallahassee City Commission, attended a public forum hosted by the Tallahassee Community Action Committee, a far left-wing activist group that proudly boasts on its website (www.tallycac.com) about its anti-law enforcement platform that vilifies police officers, refers to cops as killers, and seeks to defund the police. In fact, on its website, the TCAC states “modern American policing grew out of slave patrols and crowd control of urban areas, namely in the context of striking or protesting working class people.” The group also asserts that “law enforcement officers in the United States kill at least a thousand people every year” and homosexuals are frequently targeted by police, “especially if they are black.”

The TCAC platform is riddled with lies, misinformation and racism. The group fails to mention that according to a report from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which examined police shootings in the United States, over a six-year period, the vast “majority of victims in shootings by police- 84% overall-were reported as armed with a firearm or other weapon, such as a knife or vehicle.” There is zero evidence to suggest that police officers target homosexuals who are black and the notion that modern policing is tied to slave patrols is completely baseless as well.

In response to Porter and Johnson’s attendance at the TCAC forum, Big Bend PBA President Richard Murphy is calling on Porter and Johnson to immediately denounce the TCAC’s blatant vilification and demonization of the police. If they do not, we can assume that they too hate our police officers. We are proud of the fact that our police force is now comprised of more than 30% people of color and nearly a third of our force is female and those numbers continue to grow. We are also proud of the professionalism demonstrated by our officers every day. They deserve to be represented by local officials who respect their commitment to public safety in our communities and so does every citizen of our great city.”

@Mary ... If you want extremist Democrats who want to import a national "enlightened" ideology on Tallahassee you are on the money. Vote Jack and Dot (even the Democrat calls her the third vote). If you want more moderate Democrats the choice is simple. For any true Republican or conservative it is a no brainer. You are stuck with Democrats. It is what it is and conisdering the California "Republican" is foolish and short-sighted.

I think it speaks to the article that the author deleted their own comment after referencing "Demon-crat nonsense". It speaks directly to the reliability of the author as a narrator having such a strong, irrational bias as to refer to members of a political party as "demons", and that reflects very poorly upon this publication. Shameful behavior.

Edward and Ish are Spot on! VOTE NO for Jack Porter and Dot Johnson.

I think Ish is spot-on. Nyack is a California Progressive and was likely financed and flown in for the purpose of trying to syphon votes away from Commissioner Richardson. The Pro-Hamas Progressives believe they have a chance to take control of our City and run it into the ground.

Just say No... to Pizza Boy, Jack-in-the-box, and Do(n)t.

@Mary ... Voting for Donna is falling in the trap. She has not campaigned at all, raised no money and is a transplant from California who magically enters a race. The whole purpose for her on the ballot is to siphon votes away from Richardson.

Is Curtis ever coming on the radio show? i agree with whoever said we need to vote for Donna Nyack, Democrats aint cutting it anymore

@Mary ... that's because I do not get personal and my comments are always on target, if not agreed with all the time. Now, regarding this story ... why is this story being ignored by the local legacy outlets? Hello? WCTV, WTXL, TallDem, WFSU ... the local UNION (always embraced by Democrats and this community leans well left) is calling out a sitting anti-LEO Commissioner and a candidate who clearly wants to be a third vote. This IS a lead news story any other time but, is being shutdown everywhere but at TR. That is a story unto itself.

Good move on the part of the PBA to call out the frauds seeking city/county/state elected office. It's extremely important for voters to know which candidates despise our LEOs and the premise of Law and Order in general.

Things are getting crazier and crazier all over this nation. Now, more than ever, voters need to be clear on who is an adult seeking to serve, and who is an activist seeking to disturb.

For the good of our city and our future - as for me and mine - we will NOT vote for Porter or Inman-Johnson, and will hope for a solid candidate to replace Matlow when the time comes.

Who cares? Personally I appreciate the politicians being willing to speak to Capital Conservatives being liberal and conservatives speaking to liberal groups. Are we going cancel politicians for the beliefs of audience members in every audience they speak to?

One was mine David! It simply noted how the PBA endorsed Scott Maddox (relevant) and supported higher property taxes. Also the exclusion of Mr. Louis Dilbert another candidate who was also present seems odd. No attacks just facts. BTW I voted for you!

What does Scott Maddox and property taxes have to do with this article? You are using the article to push your own agenda. Steve S.

I think those two have already crossed that line of no return and denouncing the TCAC would be totally fake.
