LOCAL NEWS

On January 16th, 2025, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office notified the public that booking reports will no longer be available on their official website or social media. The decision is based on a recent court ruling.

According to filings with Leon County and the City of Tallahassee, the number of single-family new construction permits were down 14.7% in December 2024 when compared to December 2023.

LOCAL SPORTS NEWS

On Nov. 17, Rickards (13-8) boys basketball played a home, non-conference game against Lincoln (12-7). Both teams had similar records and were coming off win streaks trying to gain momentum heading into the post-season.

FLORIDA NEWS

Florida legal leaders from both parties trekked to Capitol Hill to urge Senators to confirm Pam Bondi as Attorney General. Witnesses speaking on her behalf included former Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg, an outspoken Democrat. Aronberg, who ran for Florida Attorney General the same year Bondi won the statewide office, noted that despite a partisan rivalry, she hired him as Florida’s drug czar.

NATIONAL NEWS

President-elect Donald Trump will be formally sworn in today, becoming the 47th president of the United States. The ceremony comes eight years after he was sworn in for his first term and makes Trump only the second US president to serve nonconsecutive terms alongside Grover Cleveland (1885-89, 1893-97). Former Ohio Sen. JD Vance will become the third-youngest vice president in history at 40 years old. See a brief history of inauguration speeches here.

US stock markets close up Friday (S&P 500 1.0%, Dow 0.8%, Nasdaq 1.5%), with S&P and Dow posting best week since early November (More).
