Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee, Elmington Capital, and community partners held a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of Ridge Road Flats, a new 250-unit affordable housing apartment community, on Wednesday, May 21, at 1 p.m. at 795 Ridge Road. The event included a program with local officials and tours of the new facility.
The press release noted that the “Ridge Road Flats was made possible with approximately $80 million in support from Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee, Elmington Capital, Tallahassee Housing Authority, the Housing Finance Authority of Leon County, U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation, Florida Housing Finance Corporation, and R4 Capital Funding.”
Designed to serve households earning no more than 70% of the area median income, the Ridge Road Flats development is rent-restricted to ensure long-term affordability. Apartments feature granite countertops, balconies and patios, in-unit washers and dryers, on-site maintenance and management, fitness center, swimming pool, community garden, and an array of resident programming, including regular pop-up events hosted by healthcare providers and financial counseling workshops.

When something in one of the apartments fails to work or something breaks and a ‘technician’ is called for repairs, who pays the bill…the County or the tenant? The County is the ‘landlord’ so I have a bad feeling about this,
The City should NOT be using my tax dollars again. The use of my money for the Edison restaurant was more than I could stand. You are Not a bank with my money. All the extra fees in my electric bill are more than my usage of electricity. This must stop!
For the county and city to be in the housing business, grocery store business..etc..is utterly RIDICULOUS! The more you give, the more they want and expect! Remember when real estate taxes paid for infrastructure and safety (police and fire)? Now it covers CRA..Children’s Council..funds private businesses..Affordable(luxury) housing..
Where did the money that was allocated for Fire Service through property taxes go?
I’m with Frank and Maven on this. Without ownership in this, the place will be trashed in two years, and they will seek more tax dollars to constantly clean it up… in perpetuity.
Oh, an save the Alinsky Semantics game… calling it Ridge Road “Flats” does not change the reality that it’s just another government housing “project” for the lazy and irresponsible.
Taxpayers should not be forced into helping you feel better about yourself or funding the illusion of your standing in life.
ChatGPT could have written a better story. So many questions left unanswered.
Po’ people livin’ large in Tally thanks to my taxes is UNACCEPTABLE.
If charities/churches want to fund this, fine. But DO NOT use my taxes.
Maybe I should retire (zero income) and apply to live there?
I will give this thing about 2 years (maybe less) and it will be a disaster area.
Break it down for us, What is the Rent? How much of that will the Renter Pay and how much will the Tax Payers Pay? Will any “Annual Inspections” be made to make sure they are maintaining the Apartment?
Wow, granite countertops, swimming pool, fitness center funded by our tax dollars? How about lowering property taxes so I can afford to upgrade my house? I hope DeSantis is able to make change in advocating for the property taxpayer by moving the homestead exemption up and make local government focus on roads, public safety and development.
