City to Add 47 New Positions in FY26 Budget, 34 for Public Safety

The FY26 proposed budget for the city of Tallahassee includes 3,044.75 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. This is an increase of 47 FTEs.

These new positions include 14 for the Fire Department and 12 for Park’s Recreation & Neighborhood Affairs. Of the 12 in Parks, six will staff the new Senior Center and six will be used to provide upkeep of Tallahassee’s parks.

The Tallahassee Police Department will add 20 new positions and the Aviation Department will add one position.

The city commission will hold the first public hearing on the budget on September 3 at city hall.
