The Florida High Seminoles flag football team (14-2) opened the regional playoffs on Apr. 28 in dominant fashion, defeating the West Nassau Warriors (10-5) 30-6 to advance to the next round.
Florida High struck quickly in the first quarter, capitalizing after a defensive stop with a creative double pass that set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Dannielle White to take a 6-0 lead. The Seminoles kept the momentum rolling later in the quarter, as White added another rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 12-0 with about three minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Seminoles took full control in the second quarter as White broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 18-0. Shortly after, Florida High’s defense delivered again, with Annelise Cardenas coming away with an interception to flip field position and give the Seminoles a scoring opportunity with time running out in the first half. With just three seconds left in the half, Florida High capitalized, connecting with Kiersten Cawley on a touchdown pass to take a commanding 24-0 lead into halftime.
Both teams traded empty possessions through much of the third quarter, but Florida High eventually broke through once more as White capped off the scoring with a 60-yard touchdown run, extending the Seminoles’ lead to 30-0.
West Nassau managed to get on the board late in the fourth quarter with just over three minutes remaining, but the outcome was never in doubt as Florida High secured the 30-6 victory.
With this win, the Seminoles advanced to the regional semi-finals where they will play a home game against Destin (11-5) on May 4th.
