Education Commissioner to Lead Polk State College

By The News Service of Florida

Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas was named the sole finalist in Polk State College’s presidential search Wednesday.

The college announced Kamoutsas will make a campus visit June 3, and the board will make a recommendation that afternoon.

“Throughout the search process, he emerged as a candidate with a compelling vision for the future of Polk State College and a deep understanding of the College’s mission and impact across the region,” the press release stated.

In a post on X, Kamoutsas said it was “an honor to be blessed with this opportunity.”

“I am excited to contribute to that work in a new capacity while continuing to support strong partnerships between K-12 schools, colleges, and universities,” he wrote.

Kamoutsas was named the 29th education commissioner in June 2025. Previously, he was the deputy chief of staff for Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Last November, Kamoutsas’ wife, Judge Rachel Kamoutsas, was appointed to the Sixth District Court of Appeal in Lakeland by DeSantis.
