The North Florida Christian Lady Eagle volleyball team faced a close and heart wrenching defeat again the Wakulla War Eagles last night. In an attempt to defend their home court, the Lady Eagles fought the War Eagles in five close-scoring matches, but ultimately could not pull through in the fifth and final set.
Only losing by two points in the first set, (26-28) the Eagles came back with momentum and beat the War Eagles 29-27 in the following set. After going back and forth for the following two sets, both teams fought hard, but it was the War Eagles that came out with the victory (7-15).
The Lady Eagles are feeling especially disappointed after coming off of a strong weekend at the Battle of the Borders tournament where they took first place.
Hosted at Maclay, the Eagles were able to defeat Godby, Escambia, Altha, and in the final match, Christ Church.
“Our team really had to put in a lot of work this weekend, but we really stepped up and grew as a team. We never gave up. Even in moments where we were ahead, we knew that we couldn’t stop, and we persevered throughout every single game,” said senior captain and setter, Rebecca Caudill. The Eagles also had a strong 3-0 win against Sherwood on Monday at home.
Even after the game was over between NFC and Wakulla, sportsmanship between both teams was still in tact. After several close calls in the game, both the Lady Eagles and the War Eagles were able to shake hands at the end of the night.
The Lady Eagles will be playing next at home on Thursday against Rickards in hopes to restart their winning streak.
