Leon County Sheriff’s Office addressed rumors of potential gun violence at Godby High School yesterday. Lt. Wiley Meggs said that rumors of gun violence were unfounded but that a small fight did occur at the school. He also stated that there have not been specific threats made against the school on social media.

U.S. District Judge Mark Walker dismissed a case filed against the Leon County School Board by the parents of a Deerlake Middle School student related to parental rights. The family that filed the suit against the district said they are optimistic the Court of Appeals will overturn the ruling.

Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor signed onto a federal challenge of a 2018 constitutional amendment that prohibits former elected officials from lobbying the governmental entities they previously served. The amendment bars current officials from lobbying other governmental agencies while in office and puts a six-year restriction on lobbying their former body once an official leaves office. Previous moratoriums were two years.

Yesterday was Human Trafficking Awareness Day and Tallahassee Police reported they have several open cases involving human trafficking victims. One TPD detective said all current cases involve victims who have known and personally trusted the perpetrator. TPD is also encouraging anyone with information to contact law enforcement anonymously.

FLORIDA NEWS

In post-election analysis, the Florida Democrat Party’s finance reports shows they trailed the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) through the election season by over $10 million. The RPOF raised approximately $10.3 million while the FDP raised $171,000. FDP Chairman Manny Diaz resigned this week following getting swept in statewide elections and Republicans gaining supermajorities in both legislative chambers.

SPORTS NEWS

Florida State men’s basketball plays host to the Virginia Cavaliers tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Cavaliers are 13 in the country and come in with a 12-3 record. Meanwhile the Noles are 3-3 in the ACC with a 5-12 record overall. The game is broadcast on ESPN2.

FSU women’s basketball defeated the eleventh ranked NC State Wolfpack last night 91-72 as the Noles continue to climb the ACC standings. Ta’Niya Latson continued her outstanding first season with an efficient night of shooting, converting 13 of her 16 shots for 31 points.
