Recognizing the possession or use of marijuana remains illegal under state and federal law and is punishable under the federal Controlled Substance Act (CSA), the majority of the Leon County Commission voted 4-3 against moving forward with a marijuana decriminalization ordinance.

The Leon County Commission voted 7-0 to award the exclusive franchise to provide waste collection services in unincorporated Leon County to Waste Pro of Florida, Inc., and authorized the county administrator to execute the agreement, subject to legal review by the County Attorney. The adopted agreement provides a residential rate of $23.17 and a franchise fee of 3%.
UPDATED: Tallahassee elected officials will consider approval of the collective bargaining agreement with the Big Bend Chapter of the Florida Police Benevolent Association, Inc. (PBA) at the next Tallahassee City Commission meeting on March 22.

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson is hoping to prioritize retaining family farms as a national security issue. “Imagine today, there being no food in the grocery store just for one week. And then you’d have chaos, right? Imagine two weeks, you’d have complete chaos. So not considering food a national security issue would be fooling ourselves.”
The Florida House Civil Justice Subcommittee voted to advance legislation that would preempt local ordinances defining landlord and tenant rights beyond state law. The bill would supersede what many local municipalities are calling “tenant bill of rights.”
Florida lawmakers are also pushing forward a bill that would challenge an existing Supreme Court precedent by allowing the death penalty for child rapists. A 2008 Supreme Court ruling determined that the death penalty could not be applied for the rape of a child, saying it was a violation of the Eighth Amendment prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. This Florida bill has received bipartisan support.

FSU baseball fell to the No. 3 Florida Gators 9-5 last night. The Gators used a five-run eighth inning to complete the come-from-behind win. The Noles started the game with a 5-1 lead, but could not hold on. The Noles fall to 12-9 this year.
The Leon Lions got a complete game effort from senior lefthander Chase Davis enroute to a 3-2 win over visiting Panama City Mosley Tuesday. Davis only allowed three hits to the Dolphins, who came into the game ranked No. 2 in the state. He struck out five and walked two as the Lions improved to 8-3 on the season.

Weed is de facto legal, in that anyone can get a medical marijuana card. Put it on the state ballot, and decriminalize it already.
Mr. Wilton Simpson, This is what I would push for……… To help save Small Farmers & Ranchers, work with the Elected Officials in DC and get them to give Small Farms a Tax Credit of $300 per Acre of Planted Vegetables for up to 300 Acres and $200 per Acre of up to 200 Acres used for Grazing for Ranchers.
