Leon County School Superintendent Rocky Hanna has responded to the Florida Department of Education (DOE)’s complaint in a letter he posted on Facebook.

After yesterday’s severe weather than came through the Big Bend, one person is dead after a crash on I-10 in Gadsden County. The crash occurred near mile marker 186 and Florida Highway Patrol said the crash involved a sedan and an SUV. Only 300 feet away, a second crash occurred but no injuries were reported in the second one. Similarly, a large tree fell in I-10 in Madison County near mile marker 246. No one was injured or hit when the tree fell.

Former President Donald Trump says Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is “losing women” voters for his staunch pro-life stance signing a bill banning abortions after six weeks. Trump has not indicated if he would have signed it, but DeSantis said he was proud to sign it. “I signed the bill. I was proud to do it. He will not answer whether he would sign it or not,” DeSantis said.

The Republican State Leadership Committee is still focusing on Florida in upcoming elections saying the state is one of its top six priorities heading into the 2024 election cycle. Florida is considered a “must defend” state by the Republican group. “As the cornerstone of the conservative movement it is imperative that we defend our majorities against the onslaught of outside spending from liberal groups across the country,” said RSLC President Dee Duncan.

In Congress, Florida Congressmen Matt Gaetz and Jared Moskowitz introduced a bill to protect national cemeteries if debt ceiling negotiations break down. Gaetz said that “it is imperative that we do not deny veterans, Gold Star families, military families, and all Americans the invaluable opportunity to visit the hallowed grounds of our fallen war heroes due to the ongoing debt ceiling negotiations.”

Florida State’s women’s golf’s Amy Bond, the winningest women’s golf coach in school history, has been named to the Division I National Coach of the Year presented by Golf Pride Watch List.  She is one of 24 finalists for the national award which will be presented during the NCAA Championship Finals at the Grayhawk Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
